Your mouth falls open at the sight. "Oh, holy mother of maple bars..." you susurrate. The sight is sumptuous. Stars twinkle brightly in a purple and black abyss and a purple planet whirling slowly as if it needs no sun to keep it in place. It seems as if the stars create a swirling protection around the planet. Your hand reaches towards the glass and you set your hands tenderly on the wall that separates you from the hypnotizing stars in front of you. You feel like a child again.
You have a small flashback to when you were younger.
"C'mon, y/n!" Lance whispers excitedly. "I have something to show you! Don't wake Rosa..." You take his hand and let him guide you up to the roof of your home. You giggle as you see blankets set out. "Wow, Lance! Es Bonito..." you mutter, staring at the stars.
"Si! But it gets better hermana!" Lance responds joyfully. "Come and sit!" you sit beside your adopted brother and stare at the sky. Something whizzes by the corner of your eyes, and you look up and gasp. "Lancie! Lancie! Look!" Shooting stars fling across the sky, making you gasp in delight and clap your hands. "Lancie it's so pretty!"
After stargazing for a while on the roof you lean on his shoulder. "Do you..." You pause to yawn, "think my Mami and Papi are up there?" You ask quietly. Lance looks up at the stars. "Yes... I'm sure they are very proud of you, hermana," he says softly, running a hand through your silky locks. You close your eyes. "I love you, Lancie..."
"Ti Amo, hermana," he replies.
You pull out of the flashback and pull your hand close to your chest, smothering back tears. It hurt too much, that memory. You used to look back on it with affection, but now it only brings the pain. I thought Lance loved me... You curl your fingers across your heart and sigh.
"You ready, Y/n?" A hand is set on your shoulder and you look up to see Olarus smiling at you softly. You look up and nod, returning his with a hurt but hopeful smile.
He sees the pain in your eyes, and on the inside, he smirks. Gotcha.
You don't see the glimmer of faint corruption in his eyes. You had returned your gaze to the floor, suddenly interested in your shoelaces. You're guided by a tender hand outside the ship and into a base hovering beside the planet.
As you walk down the seemingly cold and empty hallways you start to relax slightly, until you hear other footsteps you look up and see a woman walking towards you. She has long curly black hair that moves around her head as if it's alive, big blue eyes, a kind smile, and snow white skin. "Olarus! You're home safe."
"Yes," Olarus says this with a shrug. "Mika, this is Y/n. The paladin of the purple lion."
"Former, paladin," you reply coldly. He starts as if surprised by your promulgation. The woman's eyes turn sad. "Is it true then... about the rumor about... about Voltron letting her go?"
You bite back bitter tears. "Oh, forgive me dear." she hurries to your side and gives you a gentle hug. "This can be your home now. is that okay?"
You nod gratefully. "yes... thank you." you whisper.
She gives you a pitying look and nods. "Of course. Olarus, would you mind grabbing me some medical supplies? Her wounds need attention."
You shake her off. "No. I'm fine. Let them heal naturally. Let them scar. They will remind me of the betrayals of my so-called family." You say this with venom laced in your voice.
Mika nods in understanding. "Olarus too saved me. I served in the Blade of Marmora. I was believed dead. My father was Kolivan." She says softly. She reveals a tattoo on her shoulder. It's the symbol of the blade of Marmora. "I was raised there... but as you can see, I am only a half-blood."
"I have... had... a friend that was a half-blood too," you fix the present tense to past tense, almost spitting at the mention of one of the paladins.
She nods. "I was there... I was one of the blades that he fought," she says. "I did not like that boy. His hair was too long. he was too sassy. I have to admire his steadfastness though."
"More like stubbornness." You snap.
Olarus dips his head. "Take care of her, Mika." With a whirl of white hair, he's gone. You stare at the ground blankly. A hand settles on your shoulder. "Let's get you healed up, or at least, cleaned up," Mika says warmly. She guides you through many halls, so many that you lose count.
But it doesn't matter. All you need is a warm shower and new clothes. Maybe a bed to crash on. Anything really. Anything is better than thinking about what you had been through. Anything is better than thinking about the team you left behind.
No! They left you behind! your inner thoughts argue. Your fists clench and you try to take some deep breaths. Mika stops at a door and opens it for you. "This will be your room. Anything you need, just call. You'll start training once you're ready. We are a rebellion after all."
You nod at Mika's words. "yeah..."
"Well... I'll see you later. Hang in there. We've all lost someone. But... you're one of us now." Mika shuts the door softly.
One of us now...
A new family? Maybe.
A new life? Yes.
But getting better? That's going to be hard.
You sigh and flop onto the bed, closing your eyes and your hand reaches towards your neck where a thin, silver chain rests. You pull it up to inspect it and smile ruefully. I will always love you, is etched on the front. It was a gift from Lance when it was your 7th birthday. You rip it off your neck and throw it across the room. hearing a small ding as it hits the wall and tumbles to the floor. You don't even bother to look up and wonder where it landed.
Another broken promise.
