About ten minutes left in math class. Slowly, I start to break apart the extended response question. Thanks to Maya, I'm really understanding math better, and have been able to write more descriptive things for English assignments.

I wish she was in all of my classes. If she was I'd probably have straight A's.

Suddenly, an idea hits me.

I tap on her shoulder lightly, and she swings around to face me. "I had an idea just now!" I exclaim. She tilts her head to the side.

"Maybe you could...sorta tutor me...I guess?" That was a bit harder of a question to ask than I thought it would be.

However, she smiles happily anyway. "Sure! Sounds like fun."

Maybe now I won't just be almost a straight B student...

Maya Winter

He wants to start tomorrow. Does he want to come to my house? Or vice versa? I guess he didn't explain that part. Maybe he hasn't decided.

Maya, calm down. You're getting too worked up about this. And now I'm talking to myself. Internally. Shut up. Well, this is frustrating.

The bell rings for lunch. Finally. I almost run all the way to the lunchroom. It is across the school, so I have to go quite a ways to get there.

When I walk in, Cierra and Justin are already there. I hadn't seen him yesterday; he wasn't here.

I sit down in the same seat from yesterday. Cierra smiles brightly at me. "Hi, Maya." She seems much calmer today. Justin waves a little one handed wave, smiling adorably. I've heard he's a bit reserved. I wave back and he ducks his head. I can see his cheeks going hot under his bangs that are falling over his face.

Grinning, I turn back to Cierra, who opens her mouth to speak. . "I must have made a bit of a weird impression yesterday...sorry. I was really tired in the morning, so I drank a ton of caffeine to wake myself up. I guess I overdid it, huh? I got really hyper, and...that happened. That's what I get for staying up until 3 am watching Pretty Little Liars. Anyways, do you want to start over?"

I shake my head. "I wouldn't take back yesterday. You seemed really sweet then, and you do now too."

She puts her hand on my shoulder. "You're really cool, Maya. I know a lot of people who would have thought I was...weird."

"I know lots of people who think I'm weird, so I'm trying not to be like them," I explain nonchalantly. Being accepting would at least be the opposite of these stupid judgmental people.

I've been getting strange looks from people ever since I sat at this table yesterday. Looks like "Is she popular now?..." "What was that loser doing with them?" "Wait, I thought she was that chick we try to avoid... should we not do that anymore?" "Does this mean I have to kiss up to her too?"

Justin finally says something. "So you're name is Maya. That's pretty...so are you..." he whispers shyly. I swear, every one of them have perfect voices. "Thank you, Prince Charming," I joke, flipping my hair. He laughs quietly.

Cierra looks amused, leaning forward to whisper in my ear. "I wish I had popcorn right now, 'cause if right now were a movie I'd so watch it."

I lean back and stick my tongue out at her. She returns the gesture. Justin has a confused expression on his face. I turn around, grabbing my notebook out of my bag.

Opening to my latest drawing, I lean back into my chair. I haven't worked on it for a couple of weeks, and I don't know why.

I'm trying to draw me, which is difficult. I don't have a phone, so I can't take a picture of myself and draw from the picture. I've tried drawing in front of a mirror, which works okay.

All of the other members of the "crew" walk in in a noisy group. I feel someone closing in on my face. "Hello, Sunshine." I grin. "Are you going to say that every time you see me now?" I ask, turning my head to look at him.

He makes a mock pondering face, crossing his arms. "I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon...so probably."

"Is that your nickname, Maya?" Justin asks. I shake my head. "He just called me that when I met him and he still does...for some reason. Why do you still call me that?"

He shrugs. "I don't know. It can be our little 'thing' I guess," he says, tapping my nose. I scrunch up my face, a bit startled.

I look over and notice that Abby seems to be glaring at me. Is it a joke...or does she legitimately not like me?

Only one way to find out. "Hi, Abby," I say, trying to put on my first impression smile. "Hey!" she responds with attitude and sarcasm in her voice. Her face goes blank and she looks at the ground.

Yeah, she does not like me. I'm glad it's Friday; I won't have to see her tomorrow. I continue drawing. "How do you draw like that?" Cierra's voice asks incredulously.

"With a lot of time, practice, and a lot of pencils," I reply. A teacher comes by to dismiss out table to get in the lunch line.

But I'm not hungry. Abby makes me a bit sick to my stomach.
