Chapter 16- Happy Birthday

Last time:

"...It wasn't possible actually. you know the other day we got to see the "candle" lights?I thought it made the entire city look like a cake with candles.It's not much but I wanted to show it to Anna tomorrow!"

"Ah...I see"Mikoto replied.

"Well, i'll go with you"I said, smiling "I'm running low on caffeine needed to pull an all-nighter tonight"I said, stretching as we headed for the door.

"be careful, both of you"Izumo warned as we left, I smiled and left with Tatara.

Little did we know, we have a long night ahead of us.

Now:

The crispy winter air swept though the dark street of Shizume City, indicating the end of another day. Tatara and I had just left the HOMRA bar, heading towards the grocery store.

"Kumi?"Tatara started, I turned to look at the blond haired boy.

"Yes?"

"You and King...Tell me about it"I tilted my head and thought for a second.

"What do you want to know about?"

"Like...How you two used to get along."I chuckled as I started.

"Well, when we were little, before the accident that it, Mikoto wasn't the smart kid. He would always get in trouble, while Reisi and I would have to clean up after him" I smiled, thinking of the old days. "Between Mikoto and I , I would always be the mature one, other people said that I was like the elder sister, comparing to Mikoto that is"

"Did you two always play with Reisi?"

"Yeah, basically all the time" I smiled "You know...He had a sister too...She was younger than all of us..."I paused for a moment, before continuing " I'll talk about that another time. Anyways, why were you suddenly interested in the relationship between Mikoto and I?"

"Well...King does treat you very special. You know, he doesn't sleep on other people's lap all the time"Tatara said , fiddling with his camera.

"Well,I am his sister...So that makes me special?" I chuckled. By the time we had finished the conversation, we were already at then staircase to the rooftop already.

"I'll go up by myself, and I'll meet you after" Tatara suggested, I thought for a moment but followed.

"I'll be behind you, just in case anything happens "

"You always worry too much, Kumi-chan"Tatara said as we walked up the staircase.

As we entered the open rooftop, We saw a guy standing next to the bars, looking out into the city from above.

"Hey, it's a nice night out, isn't it?" Tatara started, trying to talk to the guy, he didn't respond, but Tatara continued anyways.

"I came here to take pictures of the nighttime view, but what are you doing here?" After hearing this, the guy stood up and stretched, putting his hand into his pants pocket, at this point, I am feeling very fishy about the situation.

"I am Totsuka Tatara, what's your name?" After seeing that he is giving a reaction , Tatara continued on.

Until the guy turned to us.

He was holding a handgun.

*BANG*

The sound of bullet cut though the sky, along with a low grunt from me, and a yelp from Tatara.

That moment, without thinking, I lunged infront of Tatara, blocking his whole body with my own, and what came next was pain.

The pain was coming from my lower abdomen, as my weight crashed down, Tatara and I fell down, him being knocked out at the sudden encounter with the rooftop floor. As I panted, the shooter started talking.
