MUNIFA
I left for Zaria a week later for my Msc. exams. I was on my way out of school and I sighted Munifa crossing and I decided to stop. I called out her name "Munifa?" It came out as if I wasn't sure if it was her and luckily she turned. "Salim right?" She asked also sounding unsure. "Yh. Are you going out?" "Yes." She answered. "Ok. Why don't you come so I could drop you off at your place?" I asked. "Alright thank you" She smiled and entered.
We got to her apartment and had a little chat before she went in. Finally I got her number. I called Ahmad immediately "I saw Munifa.... yh.... I just dropped her at her apartment now...... yes.... yh she did..... don't worry I'll be back immediately after the exams.... alright toh shikenan... bye" and I hung up.
Munifa's POV
I hurriedly entered my room and alhamdulillah Yusrah was around. "Please tell me you cooked" I said with my sad face. "Wa alaikis salaam" Yusrah said sarcastically. "Oh sorry salaam alaikum" I said dropping my bag and landing on my soft comfy blanket "wa alaikis salaam" she answered rolling her eyes. "I cooked spaghetti. Munifa you don't have anything please go to the market. Argh" she said exasperated. "I know wlh. You know I don't have time. I come back late from school and you know how our tests are. I have to read. I hardly even have time for myself. Sayyid doesn't help matters too. But I'll try and go this weekend In Sha Allah" I said. "Wait how did you even get in?"I asked surprised. "I met Sayyid just as he was about to go out so I asked him to leave the door open for me"
I prayed Asr and then I slept till Maghrib time. Yusrah stayed at my place till around 7:30 and then she decided to leave. Yes she has her own apartment. After Yusrah left, I decided to read because I had a test in 2 days. I read for about an hour and then my phone rang. I wasn't ready to get disturbed so I let it end after all it was a number I didn't know.
The phone rang again and I picked "hello" I said angrily. "hello yakike? Ya jacking?" The caller asked cheerfully. "Alhamdulillah gashi muna ta yi. Sultan?" I asked trying to confirm who the caller was. "Yh. Dama baki gane ba" he asked sounding surprised. "yh I'm so sorry naga wani number ne" I said apologetically. "Oh yh sorry it's my glo number. I called to tell you that Pharmacology test has been cancelled" "oh thank goodness. Dama I didn't read. Now I'll have more time" I said feeling relieved. "Alright toh shikenan sai anjima" "alright then. Thank you." I said and hung up.
I kept studying and I lost track of time. I raised my head to look at my broken wall clock that hung close to my wardrobe. Good God I have to get a new wall clock, I thought. "Subhanallah it's 11:30pm already and I haven't slept. I just pray I make it to 8am tomorrow." I pushed my books to the other side of the bed, dragged my soft comfy blanket and I drifted off to sleep.
I made it to my 8:am class after so much struggles with my phone alarm that I kept on snoozing until I got tired. I had few lectures today so I came back home early. I went to see Yusrah at her apartment. A little visit turned into a sleepover. After all some of my belongings where at Yusrah's apartment. Actually I had all that I needed.
I came back home after pharmacology test the next morning. I was too tired and I needed to rest and I was hungry at the same time. I went to the kitchen and my jaws dropped at the sight of it. I can't believe Sayyid actually cleaned the whole kitchen and also went shopping. I headed to his room and knocked. He sluggishly opened the door. "Oh you're back." He said rubbing eyes with the back of his hand. "what's the occasion?" I asked with a suspicious smile. "I don't get" he asked confused. "The kitchen is sparkling and it's so unlike you. You even went shopping" I said still giving him the suspicious eye. "Oh oh I got someone to clean up and also the shopping" he replied while going back into his room and closing the door behind him. "I just knew it. Lazy ass" I said and turned to leave.
Exams came and went like a blink of an eye. I finished exams before Sayyid but Ammi insisted that I wait for him until he was also done so we could leave together. I had no choice. I couldn't go to Yusrah's because she wasn't done with exams, so I would be a distraction. I was bored so I kept reading my novels. I started with Sidney Sheldon's 'Nothing lasts forever'. I was so deep into the novel when my phone's ringtone startled me. I checked who the caller was. I can't believe I didn't save Sultan's number, what could he possibly want. I wondered.
