"Where's the hobbit?" Fili whispers to you with panic in his voice.
"I- I don't know! haven't seen him since we entered the goblin tunnels." You stand up and begin scanning the faces of the company, hoping to find one framed with curly chin length hair, belonging to someone under five feet tall. Unfortunately, you had no luck.
Now you were worried, "I hope he's alright, Fee."
You bury your head against Fili's chest.
"I'm sure he's fine, (Y/N), Bilbo was probably just running a bit slower than the rest of us. Hobbits have very short legs, remember?" You appreciate Fili's reassuring words, but he keeps looking around nervously and you can tell he's worried too. Fili holds your hand in his, rubbing his thumb back and forth on the back of your hand."We will not be seeing our hobbit again. He is long gone." Thorin's voice is cold.
Fili squeezes your hand tightly.
"No, he isn't." Bilbo appears suddenly.
You realize you've been holding your breath. You breath a sigh of relief, glad to see the hobbit is still alive.
You look up at the ridge on top of the mountain. Something moves. You squint your eyes and move closer, trying to get a better look. At first, it looks like a wolf, but as it moves closer into your view you can see it's something much more vicious.
"Wargs!" You gasp, watching as the beasts come charging down the mountain.
You grip your axe tightly and begin to run back towards the Company.
"Wargs! An entire pack of them! Coming from the ridge," you alert the other dwarves, "I wouldn't be surprised to see a large pack of orcs close behind."
"Run! Up into the trees, all of you!" Gandalf calls out.
The wargs quicken their pace as The Company rushes to safety.
You reach the trees first, taking a wild leap and using your strength to hoist yourself onto one of the lower branches. Reaching a hand out to Fili, you pull him up beside you.
"Keep going until you reach the top," Fili grabs your waist and lifts you up to the next branch up the tree, "I'll be right behind you."
You scramble up the tree with ease, looking behind you every few seconds to make sure Fili's still there.
"Fee! What about the hobbit?!" You spot Bilbo struggling below.
"Here, (Y/N)! I know how we can collect our hobbit, but you have to trust me."
You nod in agreement "You have my full trust, Fili."
Fili takes hold of your feet, "I promise I won't let go. We have to hurry! The wargs are getting closer."
Fili lowers you from your feet. The hobbit stands with his back against the bottom of the tree, frozen with terror.
"Baggins! Up here!" You hold out your hand.
"(Y/N), I can't reach!" The hobbit jumps, but his hand lands just inches from yours.
"Come on! Jump higher!" You encourage him.
The wargs are only seconds away now and orcs have begun to flood down from the mountain.
Bilbo takes a deep breath and with a running start, springs himself into the air. His hand locks with yours.
"I've got-'em!" You alert Fili.
