25. Too Little Too Late

Darry's POV
It's been two days since I talked to Maddie and I think I finally found where she could be. I didn't even get a chance to tell Soda and Amanda the details of what happened yet. We haven't really been speaking lately.
I walked into a run down motel and looked at the clipboard to see if she checked in here or not. This was the last motel and it's about time I got a lead. It didn't seem very sanitary, mainly because of the awful scent floating in the air.
I just need to find Maddie. I miss her so god damn much. There was movement coming from all the rooms except for one that was eerily silent. I knocked on the door and it just slowly swung open.
        There were things shattered and spread all across the room. The window was broken and there was a lot of blood near it with a note nearby.
        I walked over and picked it up.
            Amanda, I'm so sorry. I tried to get her back. I came to Florida, and got her, but.... Sandy came back. Im so sorry, if you are reading this, then, yeah. I probably didn't make it. Tell Darry I said I love him. I love you guys so much....goodbye.

Where the hell did she go then? Is she alive? Did someone find her? I ran to the front desk and asked them about it and they said that the housekeeper found her and called 911. They dont know if she made it or not.
As I was about to walk out, I looked behind me and coming out of one of the rooms was Sandy. Why would she stay here? I just looked at her not knowing what to do at first.
I ran up to her. "What the hell did you do Sandy? Where's the baby? And where's Maddie?" My voice boomed through the motel.
        There were baby cries coming from the room. She was rambling on about who knows what, but I couldn't concentrate on what she was saying. It was as if everything were in slow motion. I tried to go inside but she pushed me. The adrenaline got the best of me and I punched her, grabbed the baby, and ran out to my car.
