The luminous trees engulfed everything around them. The air turned cold and thick.
Emily felt like she couldn't breathe. Darkness was everywhere. Not a single soul around.
No one to hear their screams if they did.
"Let's–let's just go back Casey." Emily trembled.
"What? Leave? We have to check this out." Casey said, pointing towards the huge mansion ahead of them.
From it's eerie surroundings, blackened windows and the plants that seemed to have took host of it's walls, the Manor looked evil.
Emily felt like only she could see it.
The Mansion looked quite ancient. Yet the double doors that opened to the inside of the wooden mystery and the inscription engraved on top of it in some kind of unknown language looked almost as if they were polished to perfection just yesterday.
"It's just like in the movies. I wonder if Jason x will pop out of somewhere." Casey thought, out loud.
She shouldn't have. It clicked something in Emily. It wasn't funny nor adventurous anymore.
"That's it! I'm leaving. I'm not staying here another minute. I'm sorry Casey but I'd rather not die tonight. Anyone who wants to can keep walking." She finished her outburst and walked back before anyone could object, hoping she'll find a way through the forest with her phone light.
"Emily stop!" Pam shouted at her leaving friend who had disappeared into the woods.
She turned angrily towards a clueless Casey," What is wrong with you?"
"Come on Pam. What is so scary about this? It's not like this is a movie. We're just exploring." Casey replied, hoping to calm her friend but failed miserably.
"We let Emily walk away. Alone! What if something happens to her? She's our friend Case!" Pam said, wishing she hadn't let Emily go alone.
"She'll be fine. Em's not a kid. She's eighteen. If something happens, she'll have her phone to call Miss Beatrice." Casey said, wincing while saying the last word that she didn't like so much.
"Now come on. We have a Mànsion to explore." She added, hooking her arm around an angry Pam's and walked ahead.
The howling of the wolves suddenly echoed out of nowhere. The birds screeched and Casey seemed to ignore it all.
But Pam couldn't. She wasn't one to get scared easily but the situation looked to have made an exception as her heart beats quickened- something was wrong.
