Alyssa
I smiled as I walked into my office, I loved being the best physical therapist in the state. I've even traveled with sports teams over seas. Helping people has been a great feeling to me.
"Good morning Alyssa, you have a new patient today. His file is on your desk." I nodded at my assistant and said good morning back. I walked into my office and sighed. I had a long night, I just kept thinking about Kenneth popping up at my apartment or him following me everywhere I went. It was frightening and I haven't had time to put out a restraining order.
I picked the folder up on my desk and opened it.
"Lucas Coly, 24, spinal injury causing legs and arms to function improperly." I flipped through the pages.
"Balcony? 5th floor? How'd he live? Especially with no head injuries. At all."
A knock soon filled my office.
"Hi, Alyssa. Lucas and his family is here."
"Send them in."
I soon seen a light colored woman pushing Lucas in a wheelchair. He was more attractive then I imagined. He caught eye contact with me and literally did a double take. I pulled my glasses off my face and stood up. I walked over to the mother, I'm assuming and shook her hand.
"I'm Alyssa Harris, the physical therapist. I will do my best to make Lucas' recovery speedy and get him back to his old self."
"Thank you, I've heard your the best in the state and I only want the best for my son. Oh, I'm so rude. I'm Lucille, I'm just excited my son finally woke up."
"How long has it been?"
"3 years."
"I'll set up a meal plan to get him the nutrients he needs to get back strong. Would you mind following me? I'm showing you both the rooms we'll be working in."
"Oh, do you think you could show Lucas? I have an important call."
I nodded and pushed him towards the elevator.
"So, how was it when you were in a coma?"
"I had dreams. Over and over, some felt like reality."
"I'm going to have you back to normal, we just have to build a relationship. So you'll listen to what I say and do what I say. I won't lead you wrong." I said truthfully. He just nodded as the elevator door opened.
"This is the recreational part of the facility. Basketball, weight lifting, etc. It will take time, but if your consistent and dedicated. You'll get better in no time."
"I'm hoping I can call and text whenever."
"Are you hitting on me?" I chuckled softly.
"Take it how you want, I mean you is my physical therapist."
"Wow, 3 years in a coma. You get out for the first time and hit on your physical therapist." I laughed.
"Besides that, where's your girlfriend?"
"She died, a couple months before I fell."
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"It's straight, you're my physical therapist. But I'd still like your number."
Lucas
Dammit Alyssa, just give me the number. I thought as she continued pushing me.
"I'll text you, the first date of our session. Then I'll send a meal plan, do not make it a bad idea that I'm giving you my personal number."
"I'm not even like that, I respect women."
"Mhm." She showed me the rest of the center then took me back upstairs. Where my mother was nowhere to be found.
"Do you want me to call you an Uber?"
"I don't trust Uber, can you take me?" I pressed down on my home button, and told Siri to call my mother, as soon as I did that. My mothers voicemail came on, I tried 2 more times and she still didn't answer.
"Okay, uh. I need to get my paperwork than I can leave." She pushed me inside her office and began packing up.
Once we got to her car, she helped me in then put my wheelchair in the back. I watched her get in the car, as soon as she started reversing, she stopped. I looked behind us and it was a man, standing there. She quickly pressed down the locks as he pulled on the door.
"Alyssa! Do you really have another guy in the car?! I thought we loved each other!"
"I told you to leave me alone! You're crazy!" She reversed all the way and sped out the parking lot.
"Wh-"
"Don't tell anyone about this."
"I won't, but who's your guy?"
"He's not my 'guy' he's a delusional ex."
"What he want?"
"To get back together, I guess." I guess everything that glitters ain't gold because I thought she was unbothered and working on her own shit. I guess not. She really worried about these niggas. I looked out the window and rolled my eyes. I had already put my address in her navigation system, all she had to do was wake me up when we were there.
"Lucas?"
"What?"
"We're here, do you need help going up?"
"I don't need anything, I can do it myself."
"Lucas" her voice threatened. I just didn't want to depend on someone for anything. I got myself.
"I'm helping you and that's that." I sighed as she helped me in the wheelchair, then pushed me inside and into the elevator.
"Oh Lucas, your back." A petite dark skinned girl said as she smiled at me.
"I'm sorry, who are you?"
"I'm Chasity, your neighbor."
"Oh, okay." I nodded then the elevator door opened. She pushed me down the hall to my room.
"I really didn't need you to do this."
"It's okay, open the door. I'll leave my number on the nightstand. Try moving your fingers and arms. Try texting, dialing out and picking up a remote." She stood in front of me and smiled.
"You'll be back to normal in no time." She added.
I couldn't take care of myself, I literally just got out of laying in that bed a week before they let me out of that hospital. I needed her to stay and help me. Just until my mother gets back.
"Alyssa?"
"Yeah?" She stood up straight after she wrote the numbers on a piece of paper.
"I can't take care of myself right now, can you help me? Only until my mother comes back." She nodded.
"Okay, I'll leave first thing in the morning."
"I'm hungry, I haven't eaten anything solid in so long."
I felt my stomach about to fall out my body, I needed some solid food.
"I actually have a meal plan for you. Today, you'll have steak, asparagus, a smoothie and I'm still thinking of a desert." My mouth began to water, I forgot Alyssa knew how to cook.
"Please let it be a brownie cheesecake."
"Well, alright." She smiled.
"Try to push yourself in front of the TV. If you need my help, just say my name." And with that, she disappeared into my kitchen.
I gulped as I looked at how far I was from the TV. But I was determined to make this process go as fast as I could. I pushed my arms to the side and squeezed the rails then pushed.
"Fuck!" I tried again and again. The third time, I wanted to give up. But I kept pushing and pushing until I hit the stand in front of the TV.
"Alyssa! I did it! Come look!" I cried out in excitement. She came running out and clapped.
"I'm proud of you! You got this, now pick up the remote and press a button." She stood there as I slapped my hand on the TV remote, pulling it to my lap than moved my fingers. Which couldn't stop shaking.
"Lucas, calm down." Her hand sat on my shoulder for comfort. I smiled assuring her I had this. Pressing the on button was only the beginning.
