It was 11:00 at night, I was exhausted and my hand was cramping in pain from writing. I sighed in satisfaction and closed the Social Studies test booklet. I rested my head on the desk for a moment, but it only took a moment for me to pass out. I don't know how much time had passed but I woke up cradled in someone arms. I could feel the thumping of their feet hitting the ground, but I had no idea who was carrying me or where I was going. I pretended as if I were still as asleep then swung. I hit the person right in the jaw hard enough that they would drop me.

"You have got to stop doing that." I hear a familiar voice say.

"Oh, Louis I'm so sorry, Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." He almost laughed, "why are you always on the defense?"

I felt blood rush to my cheeks, "My dad made me take self-defense classes when I was younger and I guess that every time I panic I just defend myself the best I can." There was a pause of silence before I spoke again,

"Why were you carrying me anyway?" I said as I go back on my feet.

"You fell asleep after finishing the test and I came into the room to check on you at around midnight, the head master told me to take you to the girl's dorms." We were silent the rest of the way, I watched his every move carefully. His strides were even and graceful while my feat slapped the rocky floor. His eyes were focused and strained like he was fighting against something. For some reason, there were some students walking on the paths between building just as we were; yet it was probably around one in the morning. Strange. We stopped when the path hit a gateway. A building sat on the edge of the grass very similar to the main school but smaller.

"This is it." He said still distracted, through the gateway there was a short stony path leading to three large steps and a massive set of double doors. He went ahead of me and when we reached the top of the steps he loudly knocked on the door. "Wait out here for a second." He said as the door opened, when it closed again I pressed my ear against it.

"who is that..." a female voice said

"She's a..." Louis began

"With me? ..." the female seemed stressed

"You can handle..." Louis reassured her

"What is her..." she asked, there was a long pause. Then Louis said something I couldn't quite make out.

"No! Do you want her..." she tried to control herself.

"Of course not, but I really think you can handle..." Louis tried to calm her down, another pause, and the female spoke again.

"Fine" she said defeated. I heard footsteps approach the door and I prepared myself, a girl stood in front of me, her hair dark brown and at her shoulders, her eyes were deep blue and kinder than I expected.

"hello Emily," she greeted politely "My name is Cora," she continued "You will be living in this dormitory for now or, if you make it in, for the rest of the school year." She looked at Louis who was now leaning against one of the walls "You must go now Louis, you may not stay at the girls dormitory after hours." He looked at me then back at Cora and nodded slightly before leaving.

"Shell we go to the room?" she encouraged, I didn't answer dazed by the beauty of this place. The floor was made of black and white marble, the walls of dark ivory, but the most astonishing; the residents were beautiful, they wore expensive clothes and jewelry. Though only some, the rest were perfectly normal. Cora didn't try to get my attention again, instead she rapped a hand around my wrist and pulled me along. Eventually I realized it was happening to me again. We began to climb the maroon-colored carpeted stairs.

"Are you going to be in any of my classes?" I asked to fill the emptiness of the silence

"No, you are in the day class. I am in the night class." Her response grabbed my attention and I looked at her curiously for an explanation. "The day class meets from 7:30 AM and proceeds at 2:30 PM, while the night class begins at 9:00 PM and proceeds at 4:00 AM." My eyes opened in shock

"Is that why these people are up so late?" I asked, she nodded once, "Why so late at night?"

"The night class has to take classes at night and sleep during the day, to prepare us for jobs that require late nights." She tried to explain.

"Makes sense." I said, she sighed in relief, and that's what caught my attention. It felt like she was holding back information on purpose, just as louis had. We finally reached the top of the stairs.

"anyway," she continued "the girls in this dormitory are mixed, some are in the day class and some are in the night class." We had walked down a long hallway with doors that laid across from each other. She opened the door at the end of the hallway. Unlike the others this door did not have a twin across the hall. It was a single door at the end of the hallway, that made me nervous for some reason. The room was seemingly bigger than the rest of the rooms in the dormitory. There were two beds one on either side of the room. I walked in cautiously still feeling nervous. The room wasn't big but it was spacious because of the emptiness on one half. There was a door in-between the two beds, I stared at it curiously then looked at Cora who was leaning against the doorframe.

"Bathroom." She said indifferently. I nodded and continued to examine the room. The bed had thick white cover and black pillows, the intricate black design on the covers stood out against the white design on the black pillows. I noticed the bay window next one of the beds and stared out at the darkness. It was comforting and soft in a way, the gentle moon light illuminated the bay window seat. I looked at Cora and realized that she was wearing her school uniform.

"Am I keeping you from class?" I asked ashamed

"It's fine." She insisted, she continued "but I do have to go." She said quietly after a long pause. I looked at her for an explanation. "I'm on the guard," she pointed to the embroidered symbol of a shield on her breast pocket. There were two swords crossing behind it and a blue crescent laid on top of it. Questions bubbled in my throat but she seemed to be in a rush so I held them down. Her words were rushed now. "you should go to bed, it's getting late and you might have school tomorrow. If you are accepted, I'll give you your schedule and uniform in the morning." I nodded in response to allow her to leave. I heard her footsteps pound the stairs as if she had intentionally stomped to let me know she actually left. I sighed quietly to myself and jumped into my bed, I was exhausted.
