Before I knew it, the day was over and as we left the building I realized that I wouldn't get to see Louis much after today. He looked at me then, as if reading my mind.

"If you decide to join the guard, we are having a meeting tomorrow at five o'clock. If you want to go, text me and I'll take you to the correct building." He said an he wrote down his number on my hand, "I really think you have the capabilities to be on." He said forcing a smile, I couldn't speak, why was this so hard? I thought. He waited for me to say something.

"Thanks, by the way, for helping me out with all of this." I finally said, starring at the ground as I spoke

I looked at him under my lashes, "No problem." He said simply then he turned away and we went our separate ways.

It took me a while, and I had to ask for the same directions about three times, but I finally found the girls' dormitory. The open-campus layout of the school would take some getting used to. It was probably around 3:25, what to do? I thought, I can't go to the room because Cora is probably sleeping. Mabey, I can find Angelina. I remembered that Angelina had given me her number and I think I remember Maddie saying something about going to the movies. I looked through my phone and found Angelina's name.

"Hey! What's up?" she answered the phone cheerfully

"Hey, I was just wondering if I could go to the movies with you guys tonight?"

"Oh, of course you can come." she seemed surprise that I wanted to go

"When should we meet up?"

"Just come up to my room now. I'm in A278"

"Okay, it might take me a while to find it though, I'm still not used to this building" I heard a muffled chuckle over the phone

"That's fine."

I was right, it took me about twenty minutes and two map references to find her room. I knocked on the door, "Hello?"

The door opened and I saw Angelina's smiling face in the doorway, "Hey Emily! Come in."

Mackenzie and Maddie were already there, "Took you long enough, aren't you right upstairs?" Mackenzie said jokingly.

I blushed, "Sorry."

"I didn't think you would come." Angelina said to fill the awkward moment of silence

"Why would you think that?"

"Just thought you would spend your first day unpacking or-"

"Or spending time with Louis." Maddie cut her off.

I felt my face flush, "I already told you, I'm not interested but," I paused

"But, what?" Mackenzie asked

"well, I'm sort of at a loss on what to do?"

"About?" Angelina egged on, I wasn't sure if I should tell them or not.

"Well? Spit it out." Maddie said anxiously

"Well, Louis sort of asked me to join the guard." I said it quickly, I looked at their faces and all three of them looked shocked, "What?" I asked curious

"The Guard?" Angelina said still shocked, "On only your first official day!"

"Yeah, what? What is it?" I asked desperately

"Your new so I understand why you wouldn't be shocked about this but, the guard is almost impossible to get into." Mackenzie said

"Why?" I asked

"Do you know what the guard is?" Angelina asked

"Not really, didn't you say it was something about enforcing the rules?"

"The guard is an elite group of night class students who manage the rest of the students and make sure that the rules are followed."

"So? Why is it such a shock that I was asked to join?" I asked still confused, they all still looked surprised

"Because," Angelina said a little annoyed that I still didn't understand, "The guard has never had a day class student serve before."

I smiled at them and they looked confused, "It's okay guys, I wasn't going to join anyway."

Maddie looked at me then with desperation "No," she said eagerly, "You absolutely have to join."

"Why?"

"You still don't get it, do you?" Maddie said still anxious, honestly they were really scaring me at this point, "Firstly, Louis is sort of like the captain of the guard and he was the one who asked you to join, so you really can't refuse. Secondly, the guard has never had a day class student join."

"So, why do I have to join?"

she looked at me and smiled, "So that you can give us insight on what happens there, isn't that obvious."

I broke out laughing, "That's why you want me to join?" I said hyperventilating, "Look, I was flattered that he had asked me to join, but I honestly don't think I should."

"Why in the world would you think that?" Maddie said whining

"Well, for starters, I'm a new student. How am I supposed to enforce the rules if I don't know them very well myself?" I argued

"You can learn." Maddie countered

"Also, I'm not sure the other students would even listen to 'the new girl'." I disputed

"Oh, Louis will make them listen." Maddie said confidently, I decided not to keep arguing, she wasn't going to hear me out.

"Anyway," Angelina said to break the moment of awkward silence, "I'm sure Finn is downstairs waiting for us by now, we should get going."

We met up with Finn and went to see some gory horror movie. Maddie told Finn about my predicament on the way and tried to convince him that I should join. Finn was on my side though, saying that he sure as hell wouldn't listen to me. We grabbed dinner and got back to the dorms at around 6:00. When I got into the room Cora was still sound asleep. So, I quietly walked to the bathroom and quickly showered before plopping on my bed to begin my homework. It was only my first day but I had so much to do, by the time I finished Cora had woken up and gone to school. I lied in my bed for a while thinking about what I would decide. Should I join the guard? One voice was screaming, yes, you have too! Aren't you curious? Plus, it will help you adjust better if you are patrolling the school. Another was saying, Absolutely not. How would you enforce the rules? No one would listen to you, and if you were on the guard what time would you be able to get school work done and sleep if you are patrolling all day and night. There was a last small, almost inaudible voice whispering, you must. What choice do you have? Louis asked you, you cannot turn him down. What if you got to patrol with him? Also, this way, even though you're in the day class and he in the night, you can see and talk to him daily. I tried to shut that voice up, but throughout the night it only grew louder.
