“Love is the beauty of the soul.”

                                                                                                St Augustine

At dawn I sat on the roof of my new home, thinking about all the things that have happened.  I’m seven months into the pregnancy and I’m getting more used to it each day.  I looked over the neighborhood that I have become accustomed to over the last month.  The sun was coming up and the sky was turning gorgeous pastel colors.  I getting up I grabbed my black note book I had been writing in and went back into my room to get dressed.  When I finished getting ready I headed downstairs and saw Eli sitting on the couch.  I went over and sat down beside him.

“Hey!” I practically yelled as I sat down. “Who let you in?”

“Hey,” he said, “Rose did, you want to come over to my house?”

“Sure,” I replied. “Do you by any chance have chocolate?”  I asked.  Eli looked at me like I was totally crazy and just nodded his head.  “How about wet cabbage leafs?”

“I am pretty sure I can prepare wet cabbage leafs.” He said completely confused.

“Well then let’s go then they are calling out my name.” He didn’t say anything; he just mouthed the word “okay”.  The car ride to Eli’s house was short and were silent each wrapped in our own thoughts.  My thoughts were mostly consumed by chocolate and wet cabbage leafs, for some reason I have been craving chocolate and wet cabbage leafs. We pulled up at his house and I jumped out and ran to the front door.  Eli laughed and let me in, I ran to the kitchen yelling “Wet cabbage leaves and chocolate, boy!!”  I sat down on a stool at the breakfast bar and watched Eli melt me some chocolate, he also got a ton of cabbage leafs sopping wet. When he finished he put the chocolate in a bowl, the cabbage on a plate and set it in front of me. I smiled up at him and then looked down at my food hungrily. I grabbed a leaf and dipped it in chocolate stuffing it into my mouth greedily. I heard Eli make a choking sound I just glared up at him.

“Janie?” Eli asked sounding very unsure of himself.

“Yeah,” I said looking up at him with half a wet cabbage leaf hanging out my mouth.

“Will you be my girlfriend?  I want to help you raise the baby.  I don’t want him to have no father.” he said, chewing on his bottom lip.  He was looking at me very seriously with wide eyes and he looked adorable.

“Yes!” I yelled, nodding my head, I jumped at him and wrapped him in a tight hug.  “I would love to be your girlfriend.”
