Part 7

That night, I dreamed of River. It was autumn. We had gotten to know each other even better since the day I took his picture (and he took mine). He loved vanilla milk shakes, and hated chocolate ones with a burning passion. I, on the other hand, was partial to neither, preferring a nice raspberry shake. River loved all the good, old movies (although he admitted to liking some of the newer ones too). Contrary to him, I disliked classic anythings. His next question stunned me thoroughly.

"Even classic beauty?" He cocked his head to the side a little. Kind of like a little puppy, but a smart puppy. Not innocent. Maybe if ---

"Abbigail?" Oops. I must have been inner-rambling again.

"What do you mean by that?" I said to him, trying not to let my voice sound weak.

"Well.. you know." He seemed at loss for words, which is rare. "Classic beauty. Not what today's society would consider beautiful. Definitely not like the girls in magazines adds. You know. Like.. refined beauty. One that doesn't need make-up or surgery or nice clothes to be appreciated." That is a.. thorough explanation. Very River-like.

"Well.. sure. I like classic beauty. Everyone does, I think. Don't you? It's just I don't really know many people with 'classic beauty'.... " I trailed off.

"I do." River replies mysteriously. "Just one girl though. She has magical red hair and sparkly eyes, and the most genuine smile I've ever seen. And I'm talking to her right now." He finished satisfied.

"Are. You.. Talking about. Me?" I breathed, fighting to get each word out.

"But of course. Abbigail, I don't think you've realized it yet, but you're a treasure. You are.. special. Amazing. The light of my day." His face lite up with a beautifully humble smile.

"Whoa. You're.. not kidding are you?" I asked, unsure of my own voice.

"Nope, I'm serious. And.. I just have one thing for you.:

"W-What?" I said, like the genius I am. *Note the super heavy sarcasm

"This." He grinned as he leaned towards me and kissed me. Right. On. The. Lips. It was a sweet kiss. A first kiss. A magical kiss. I was the one to pull away. Overwhelmed by all of this.

He was breathing heavily and had his arms around me, hugging me close to him. I looked up and thought "Wow, he really IS tall", just before I passed out.

**Back in the present **

I woke up quietly sobbing. Why? Why can't he just go away? Oh, wait. HE DID. Just no from my mind. If that.. even makes sense. I shook my head, trying to clear it. Oh great, another school day. Fun. (NOT).

I hurried through my usual morning routine. Shower.. I found myself standing in front of my mirror with a towel wrapped around me. Emo. Definitely 'emo chick' today. I like to dress for my mood. Black skinny jeans (with an excessive amount of holes/rips/wear&tear) ... no. I through them back in my closet. A nice little skirt would do for today. Black. Half way down my thigh. With Black & white striped socks that go all the way up my legs. Perfect. And a simple t-shirt. Something not too stand-out. Perfect. I rushed to the bathroom to do my hair.

First I blow-dried it (blew-dried it?), then straitened it. Good. Quickly, I teased it up in the back, and added a little bow-clip thing in the front. Make-up! I drenched my eyes in eyeliner (surprisingly, I used purple, not black). An excessive amount of mascara. Some shimmer-white eye shadow, nice dark red lip-stick.. and voila! Done! Wait.. one more touch. I rummaged around for my cute little diamond nose ring. I grabbed my purse and trudged downstairs.

Waffles! No.. cereal. Bagel? Yeah, bagel. I toasted a blueberry one and spread some cream cheese on it. And. Ate. It. Om nom nom nom. Yum. Now I'm off to school.I grabbed my phone out of my bag. It's a Rumour2 by LG. It sucks though. I sooo need a new one. I dialed my BFF's number and waited. One ring.. Two..

"Hello? What's up A?"

"Need a ride to school?" I asked sweetly.

"Nope. I don't actually. I'm in my car right now. Almost there. Thanks for the offer though."

"Okie doke. See you in a few. Hey, if you see Luke before I talk to you again, make sure you smile and make eye contact!" I hung up before she could argue. I know I sounded all up-beat, but that was just so Chenisse wouldn't catch on. Because it's NOT a good day. It's the worst in months. That dream was so real. It was like I was there again.

*sigh *

I parked as far from school as I could (which is quite far, it's a huge parking lot). I needed a little more time to think. One foot in front of the other. That's it. Step, step, step. Stair, stair, stair. Pause. Keep walking.

"Miss Bellefleur." the secretary startled me.

"Yeah? I'm not late am I?"

"No. I simply wish to.." she seemed to finally take in my appearance. "..say good morning. Abbigail, what are you wearing??" Wow, that woman is NOT shy. How rude of her to ask that.

"Clothes, and if you don't mind, I need to get to class. Good day." I huffed and whirled around. I turned the corner only to witness my best girl friend and my newly found guy friend conversing. Cute. Except, I'm not in the mood for cute. I stomped over to them.

"Hey". I said.

"Oh.. hi.. what's your-- Abbigail?" Luke seemed a bit freaked out and bug-eyed. (It would be funny on any other day.)

"Yep." I popped the 'p' sound. Chenisse was frowning at me. She grabbed me by the elbow, excused us to Lucas, and dragged me to the other side of the hall.

"Are you okay?" she asked when we got there.

"Does it LOOK like I'm okay?" I said through my teeth.

"No. Not really. Abbigail, this is the worst it's been since school started. I'm worried."

"Don't be. I'll be okay later."

"Promise?" She looked skeptical.

"Yeah, I do."

"Okay. Well.. I kind of left Luke hanging there. I was informing him of the semi-Formal." She giggled.

"I see." I tried to sound happy, I really did! But.. Chenisse saw through it.

From there, my day went on pretty normal. Except I got a lot of weird looks from people. Oh well. Deal with it, right? The lunch bell finally went off, and I went to meet Lucas and Chenisse at the cafeteria doors, like we had agreed upon earlier that day. I got in line and bought a freshly-made cinnamon bun and a chocolate milk. Yummy. I know it's not nutritious.. oh well.

I sat down at our usual table. Lucas joined us. There was a collective gasp from somewhere in the room and heads turned, trying to find the source. I looked towards the east entrance of the cafeteria. Standing there was the one person who, for almost two years now, I saw only in my nightmares.
