"Who else knows?" I whisper to her
"Only you. Your my closest friend." she responds
All of a sudden my friend Kaitlyn comes in, wearing her light blue short shorts, her black shirt and our matching scarf.
"Oh hey guys, what's up?" me and Ellie look at each other, me wondering if Ellie's going to tell her
"I have cancer," she finally says, "Leukemia." Kaitlyns eyes get big and she covers her mouth
"What?" she whispers "Hanna, is she just pranking me?"
"No." I whisper, tears streaming down my face
"Oh my gosh." Kaitlyn slowly sinks to the ground.
We all just sit there in silence for a couple minuets, thinking about it.
The bell suddenly rings.
"Guess we have to get to the auditorium for the freshman presentation." Ellie says slowly
"You two go, I've got to go pee." I say
"Ok meet you there." Kaitlyn says. After they leave I go into one of the stalls and close the door. Once the lock is securely in place I reach into my bag and pull out a small nail clipper that's allowed at school. I push all my bracelets and bangles that I always wear up my wrist and slowly drag the nail clipper across my wrist, leaving beads of blood and wincing once in awhile. Every time I make a new mark I think of Ellie dying, me losing my best friend and being all alone. Once I've made three or four cuts I stop, put the nail clippers in my bag and leave, stopping at the drinking fountain to get a drink.
