The hospital

I woke up in a hospital bed only able to feel one of my legs. My mom was next to me looking tired.
"Are you okay, Mom?" I asked her. She looked at me and smiled sadly.
"I'm just tired. The real question is how are you?" She said.
"Well I can't feel one of my legs, and how long was I out?" I responded.
"You've been out for a day and a half. They drugged you and did a surgery on your leg. There's been a boy sitting in the waiting room for almost the whole time waiting for them to let him in." She said.
"Ok, can They let him in now?" I asked, thinking it was Sam or Aaron.
"Yeah. I'll go tell them." My mom got up and left the room. For the first time since I got up I took a look around the room. It was small, white and empty except for the bed I was on, a chair by my bed, a TV and a small bedside table that was overflowing with cards and flowers. I was looking down at my blue hospital gown when I heard the door open.
"Hey, how are you feeling?" I looked up, surprised. It wasn't Sam or Aaron, it was Jesse wearing a hockey sweatshirt from last year, a backpack and a pair of jean, he was carrying flowers, a card and my favorite candy-sour patch kids.
"I feel like I could run a marathon. What do you think?" I responded sarcastically
"Well good thing your sarcasms back, you're you again." He responded with a laugh, sitting down. "These are for you." He handed me the gifts and I immediately tore open the sour patch kids.
"Thanks," I said, chewing on a gummy person. "Want one?" I offered the bag to him. He grabbed one of the new blue ones.
"Do you want to watch a movie? I figured you'd be bored so I brought a couple." He pulled out a stack of movies from his backpack. "I knew you liked Harry Potter so I brought in all the movies and the movie The Princess Diaries since your friends told me you liked it." I looked at him with an expression of wonder on my face.
"Oh my gosh, thank you!!! How did you get these? My mom said you've been at the hospital almost the whole time."
"Well I went home at night and on my way here this morning I had my dad stop by and I got all the movies that we didn't own there but we owned most of them. Now what do you want to watch?" I eventually decided on Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, once we finally figured out how to work the TV we turned off the lights and watched the movie.
After the movie was over Jesse and I just sat there in the dark for awhile before either of decided to speak.
"I'm sorry." I heard Jesse say softly
"It's fine, I overreacted." I whispered back, turning my head and looking at his outline in the dark.
"No it's not. I just assumed these things of you when I didn't even know you and you're completely different from how I thought you were!" He said put his head in his hands "I thought you were trying so hard to be someone you weren't when in reality you were just being yourself. You're sarcastic, funny, weird, sad, you love Harry Potter and Percy Jackson, you're smart, you like to run and there are so many other things that you are that I want to know about you,, but I was shallow and assumed that you were trying to be popular, that you were loud, annoying, a show-off, a know-it-all and other bad things. I'm sorry." He turned to look at me and I just stared at him.
He was apologizing to me, I wasn't used to this.
"But I am the other things, well most of them. Just once you get to know me you look past those things," I shifted uncomfortably "and yes I forgive you. Friends?"
"Friends." He smiled at me in the dark before he stood up and turned on the light. "I've got to go now but I can come back after school tomarrow if you want."
"Yes! Please, I'm probably going to be bored to death." I responded enthusiastically.
"I'll see you tomarrow." he turned, halfway out the door before I called to him.
"Jesse, I stopped. I haven't done it since that day at school." He looked at me and smiled
"Good."
