All day I lied in bed, watching TV or answering questions when the nurse came in.
"Some people are here to see you. Should I let them in?"
"Yes, please." I said as I turned off the TV
"Hanna!" Margret called, bursting through the door with Allie, Brita, Eliana, Summer and a lot of my other teammates behind her.
"What are you guys doing here? Practice doesn't end this early normally!" I cried, surprised and happy that they had come.
"Shelty only made us run one loop around the school before saying that we should all come to visit you. She could tell that we were off today, since we didn't know what had happened to you." My friend Josie said, twirling her car keys around her finger. She was like my role model, a year older than me and we looked so much alike that we were often thought to be sisters. Her hair was dyed really dark red at the moment with purple highlights. She had been on the team since 7th grade and had gone from being one of the slowest girls on the team to being one of the top JV girls. She always wore these awesome outfits, like today she was wearing a black tank top, a white lace skirt that you could see through, a pair of black legging shorts underneath with knee-high black lace up boots. She didn't believe in heavy makeup so she just had on some mascara. She was nice to everyone but was still the most sarcastic person in the world with a popular twin brother that everybody on the team around her age had liked at one point.
"So, now what we came here for. What happened to your foot and how long till you're able to walk down the stairs." I laughed. Josie had broken her foot a few years ago and couldn't walk down the stairs for 6 months.
"Not that long, but I'm still going to be out for the rest of the season." Groans were heard from the whole room.
"Well you had better still be coming to practice and cheer us on while Shelty makes us do intervals." Lia one of our captains said, fake commanding. The whole room laughed together.
"Of course, I wouldn't miss watching all of you pass out for anything!" I said teasingly. They all stayed for awhile but one by one everybody had to leave for the carboload. I would be going to the meet to cheer everybody on tomorrow. Before they left Josie came up to me and gave me a big hug.
"I know how it is. You may feel useless for awhile but you are a big part of this team. Your enthusiasm drives us, so just know that. Okay?" She said, hand resting on my shoulder.
"Yeah. I got it." I said looking into her eyes, her eyebrows were scrunched up with concern for me.
"Ok, I've got to go now or all the food will be gone by the time I get there. I'll see u tomorrow bright and early at 7:30 on the bus. I'll save you a seat!" She stood up and waved as she left.
Right after she left I got a text.
"Sorry, can't come. Got a game, will come tomorrow tho -Jesse"
I sighed
"Ok" I typed back, flopping backwards onto my bed. This was going to be a rough night filled with pain and nightmares.
