I walked through the halls to the auditorium, taking my time. I turned to look at one of the display cases, dragging my finger along the glass, when I suddenly run into something hard. I turn my head, expecting it to be a wall, but instead looking at the face of Jesse Quimby, the guy I've liked since 7th grade. Jesse is one of those guys who looks like he could be an abricrombie and Fitch model. I am not kidding. Even in 7th grade he had a chiseled jaw that goes perfectly with his chocolate brown eyes and perfect brown hair.
"Hey Hanna."
"Hi, um sorry about that. I wasn't looking where I was going."Jesse laughed
"You never are."
"What's that supposed to mean?" I said, instantly getting defensive
"Remember that time in track when you fell into that puddle and when you got up to go dry off you tripped on the bleachers and sprained your ankle and twisted your knee and had to sit out for two weeks?" he said teasingly."
"Omg, you saw that," I said blushing "That was so embarrassing!"
"Of course I saw that, everyone did," he said, laughing
"Yeah, oops. guess I shouldn't have yelled 'be right back' at the top of my voice and gotten everyones attention." I giggled
"Yeah, that was hilarious. Where are you going right now?"
"To the auditorium for the assembly"
"Ummmm the auditorium is that way." he said pointing behind me.
"Ummm no isn't it that way?" I ask pointing behind him."
"All the signs are pointing that way." I look around.
"Oh yeah......."
"Here, I'll walk with you, come on."
We walk silently to the auditorium. when we finally got there we turned and awkwardly looked at each other.
"Well, I guess we'd better go in then.' Jesse said, scratching the back of his neck.
"Yeah, I guess."
We push through the doors together and turn in separate directions, I turn around to look at him one last time before I go sit next to my friend Kendra. Kendra is bisexual and she is dating my friend Harmony right now, Kendra has long blond hair and today is just wearing a t-shirt and jeans. She's the kind of person that makes really dirty but funny jokes.
"Where were you?" she whispers to me
"Nowhere." I say, feeling my cheeks heat up
"I noticed that Jesse walked in late too," she said elbowing me in the gut "where you guys doing something out there? Huh? Huh? Huh?"
"No we just ran into each other and he told me where the auditorium was. Turns out I had been going the wrong way."
"That's it? Wow, you must be pretty embarrassed." she said laughing.
"Yeah. I am."
"Shush." Mrs. Hall said and we both shut up.
