I was running. My running buddies beside me, we were running a five mile run and we were in the middle of the group as usual. I felt free, the way that I always do when I run. I felt the wind flying through my short hair and my head was clear. Running was the only time I wasn't depressed, it was the only time I wasn't worried about others opinions of me. It was the only time I could just be me.
"Hanna, your going really fast today! Keep it up." my coach yelled after me. I smiled and kept running. We were running through a park right between where our coach had been standing and the school when I fell. I stepped in a hole and I fell to the ground, hearing a crack and right away felt immense pain in my ankle. I screamed and looked at my leg, it was at an awkward angle, lying on the ground.
"Summer! Run back and get Shelty!" Margaret yelled. Summer nodded and ran as fast as she could in the direction we had come from "Eliana, see if you can find a house close by or someone with a phone and call 911 and Allie run back to the high school and tell the rest of the team. Go! Now!" The other two took off in different directions, doing two separate things.
"How does it feel?" Margret asked
"It..hurts.." I gasped out with tears streaming down my face
"On a scale from one to ten, one being low and ten being high pain what is it?"
"20...2." I managed to say before it started to hurt even worse and I screamed. I was vaguely aware of Eliana coming back with a boy in tow.
"We called 9-1-1 and they're on their way, we just have to get her out by the street." The boy said, his voice familiar, as he bent down to pick me up. "Come on Hanna." He started to move me and I screamed. It felt like my leg was being ripped off and I started to see black spots.
"How do you know my name?" I asked, hoping that would distract me from my pain.
"It's me, Jesse, from school." He said as he carried me towards the street as fast as he could without hurting me. My vision started to go black again.
"Can someone sing a song?" I gasped out, hoping that would help me stay conscious.
"Yeah. What song?" Jesse asked. At that moment Allie came sprinting back with my close friends Brita and Addy.
"Brita knows what song." I said. Brita nodded and slowly started singing my favorite song.
"Sweet dreams are made of these, who am I to disagree." Jesse started to join in
"Traveled the world and the seven seas, everybody's lookin for something. Some of them want to use, some of them want to be used by you." Addy and Margret started to join in. "Some of them want to abuse you, some of them want to be abused."
We got to the curb and the ambulance was waiting there for me. The got me in and asked if I wanted any one to come with and I pointed at Jesse.
"Is this your brother?" One of the nurses asked
"No"
"Is he your boyfriend?"
"No." I replied again, slowly having my vision clouded over in black.
"I wish I was." I heard Jesse mutter right before the world faded to black
