AS I WOKE UP I was startled by a figure sitting on my bed looking directly down at me. After rubbing my eyes and letting my heart rate slow down, I realized it was only Diana. I groaned and put my hand up to the beaming light that was all too bright.

"Oh, Diana, you gave me quite a fright." I said, placing my hand on my chest and letting out a breath.

"I'm sorry, Samantha," Diana giggled. "I just wanted to know how your day with Gilbert went yesterday. After all, I haven't seen you in nearly a week!"

"I know," I said, sitting up in my bed. "It feels like a lifetime since we've last spoken. I missed you."

"I missed you too," Diana said, giving me a hug.

"So, spill!" Diana said excitedly, holding both of my hands out in front of me.

"I don't know, Diana. We've only been together for a week and it seems like forever. He makes me happy. And, for the first time in a long time, I feel like I'm home."

Diana looked like she was going on the verge of tears, "I'm so happy for you, Samantha."

I smiled and blushed, "Thank you, Diana."

Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Visitors usually don't come this early, which was quite odd.

Diana and I quietly crept out of my room and over to the staircase, to which Mrs. Barry was opening the door. It wasn't until we heard her gasp, we then walked down the stairs.

"Mr. and Mrs. Vanderbilt, what a surprise," Mrs. Barry said, bowing her head.

"Vanderbilt?" I questioned, causing Diana raise her eyebrows in shock.

"They are only the wealthiest families in history. But, what are they here for?" Diana questioned.

"May we come in?" A very proper British accent asked.

"Of course," Mrs. Barry said, opening the door wider to allow them inside.

Once they were in view, I could now fully analyze them. The woman was absolutely beautiful. She was dressed in only the finest of jewelry and her dress was simply divine. The man beside her was dressed in a black suit and a gold wrist-watch that must've cost a fortune.

"Would you like some tea?" Mrs. Barry offered.

"No, thank you. That's alright." The woman said politely.

"Okay, well, um, what can I do for you?" Mrs. Barry asked, her nerves taking over.

If Mrs. Barry was nervous, than these people must be the highest of the elite families. This made me even more nervous.

"We've come to see Samantha Darling," The man said, his voice soft but stern.

My body immediately froze. Why would they want me? I was just an orphan.

"Me?" I asked, causing all eyes to turn to me.

"Are you Samantha?" The woman asked, a kind smile forming on her lips.

"Y-Yes," I stuttered out of nervousness.

"Well, aren't you a beauty," The woman said, walking up to me. "I can't believe it has been this long."

The woman had platinum blonde hair like me, and she had the blue eyes as well. The man had dirty blonde hair, but the exact same blue eyes.

"What is going on?" I questioned, looking around at everyone.

"Sweetheart, I am your mother," The woman said, causing Diana, Mrs. Barry, and I to gasp in shock.

"What do you mean?" I asked. "My mother is—"

"Deceased, yes," The woman finished. "But, That was not your mother. That was a woman I told to take care of you, because we had not had the money or the time to do so ourselves. But now, here we are."

"So you're telling me that you are my real parents?" I asked, astonished.

"We are," The man said, smiling kindly to me. "And we're here to take you home."

"Home?" I questioned. "But... this is my home. Here in Avonlea."

"I'm sorry, sweetheart. But, it's time to say goodbye and start a new life where you can become a woman. I'm dreadfully sorry this was so last minute, but I wanted to see my daughter, all grown up." My mother said, walking up to me and giving me a gentle hug.

Once I pulled away, I looked back up at my mother, "So, you mean, I am a Vanderbilt?"

"Indeed you are," My father said, smiling proudly.

"And I am going to live with you, in your mansion?" I asked, my words shocking me.

"Yes," My mother said, laughing lightly. "There are lots of horses and a swimming pool, too. I really think you are going to like it there, Samantha."

"I would like it very much," I beamed, but then I remembered Gilbert. How can I say goodbye? I can't lose him. Not now; not after everything he's been through.

What am I going to do?

"When will we leave?" I asked.

"The ferry leaves tomorrow for London. We will have to leave sooner than expected. Once again, I'm sorry this came up so soon, but I'm glad we are finally together as one big, happy family." My mother said.

"Right," I repeated, my tone softening. "One big happy family."
