BELLE

After nearly two weeks in an induced coma, and another two in recovery, I was finally discharged. I walked out the hospital doors feeling relieved, free.

Kaydan is dead. I'm no longer married to him. I'm no longer tied to him. I felt the smile on my face as I stood there waiting.

Matt was bringing the car around. As he pulled up, I got in.

"You look really happy." He smiled at me.

"I feel really happy. The happiest I've been in a long time." I grinned at him like a Cheshire cat.

"I love seeing you smile." Matt beamed at me. "I would spend every dollar I have to keep that smile there."

I felt my face redden. "You would be a very broke man than." I squeaked out in embarrassment.

"But a very happy one."

I didn't ask where I was going. I was too content to sit there in my mood. I have forgotten what freedom felt like. I didn't have to watch over my shoulder. I no longer felt tense. It was, well, marvelous.

But after realising this was not the way to my apartment, I snapped back to reality. "Where are you taking me? This isn't the way to my house."

"Belle, I canceled your lease. I paid everything up to date, all your stuff is in a spare room at my place. I want to keep an eye on you for a couple weeks, make sure you are good first. Plus I didn't know how long you would be in that coma for."

"So you are kidnapping me?" I laughed to break the awkward silence.

Matt smiled. "No, I don't see you screaming and trying to escape." I laughed. "Just for observations, really."

I watched Matt's face as he kept his eyes on the road. His playful demeanor gone, and he looked so serious. Tensed even.

After a couple more minutes of silence, I let out what bugged me. " You cant demand or expect me to go to your place. I would have been fine at my place."

"No."

I raised my eyebrows. "No?"

"No ."

Matt turned and pulled into a driveway. I looked at the huge mansion. It looked different in the day light.
Matt pulled up and turned the car off. I jumped out in a huff and stormed to the front door.

Matt caught up.

"Pray tell, where is this spare room?" I grunted.

"Up the stairs, go to the end of the hall and up another flight. Last door on the right."

I went through the door as soon as Matt opened it and left him there. I was so angry. I took the stairs two at a time and turned right.

"Other way." I heard Matt yell. I turned around and went down the other end till I found stairs again. I took them two at a time as well and turned at the top. Last door on the right. OK. I slowed my pace as I got to the door.

I opened it to find a suitcase on the bed, my handbag on the night stand and even my mink blanket on the bed. I shut the door and turned the lock. I walked to my bag and found my phone. I answered the messages from Lucas. Matt has been given him daily reports.

My anger simmered down at that but just the thought of Matt had me worked up again.

I fished through my bags till I found my headphones. My phone was already on charge, thanks to Matt. I put the ear pieces in my head and turned my music on full. I heard the knock on my door but I laid down and let the tears flow.
