MATT
I had spent all day in meetings. Every time one finished I tried to dash home, but then another started.
Being the owner of this business is a pain. I never get any time where I can rush off and do my own thing.
Belle didn't come in again. I didn't see her this morning either. I first thought she went for a jog but after breakfast and still no sign of her I went to her room.
She had refused to get up. I was running late, so with a snarled lip I had left her there.
I wanted to get home to her. Finally I had put my foot down after my last meeting and called it quits. It was eight thirty and I nearly made it out the door when Cole called. I answered and made the phone call quick.
With a sigh, I left my building and headed home. Something had popped in my mind today and it has been bugging since. I don't know I didn't notice it before, but now I did it was overly obvious.
I took the drive home and parked in my usual spot. The car park next to mine in the drive way has been empty since Belle rolled her car.
I walked in side the mansion and straight to my room. Yet I wasn't surprised that it was empty. I loosened my tie and pulled off my jacket then slipped out of my shoes.
I was hanging for a shower but I took large strides to Belles room. And sure enough she was asleep on the bed.
In a swift motion, I picked Belle up and returned to my room. I had no intentions of keeping her asleep.
I walked to the others side of the bed and deliberately drop her. Belle landed with a bounce. "Fuck!" She swore as she woke.
"What was that for?" She glared at me.
"I told you last night. Never try to sleep without me." I growled as I walked to the door and closed it.
I moved to my night stand and removed my cuff links then sat with my back to Belle. I took off my socks and discarded them with the rest off my clothes.
" Stay there. " I warned her as I felt her stand. But she didn't listen. I got up and stalked towards her. "We need to talk."
The confusion was pure innocence on her face and it made me soften.
"Yes. I think we do. You told me you will stop demanding and ordering me so much." I saw her lift her head in defiance.
"No. Not about that. About Kaleb." I snarled.
Belle tilted her head to the side, frowning. "What about him?" Her arms akimbo on her waist.
"When you worked for me when you were... Anna, how come you were fine with him?"
"What?"
"Every time you came face to face with him you were scared. But at my work, the fear never flickered through you." I smirked. I've got her now.
I've been thinking all day about this. It had me doubting myself and Belle. What if Kaleb was right about her?
"As far as I know, Matthew, Kaleb was only in your office once. That same day I went home after I heard him. I faked a sickie."
I frowned at Belles words. She did go home while Kaleb was with me. I had texted her and she said she had.. "food poisoning."
"Yes. I never knew he was a business associate of yours till that day." I heard the crack in Belles voice and I felt a mental wall falling.
"Yes you did."
Belle shook her head. "No I didn't."
Why has she got to argue with me? "You were the one setting up meetings with his secretary. KB Electricals."
