We sat in awkward silence as we listened to the rumble of Lia's dusty old car bump its way down the road, we decided to go to my house first since it was the furthest away, we would hit Jackson's house on the way back. The car jerked to a stop in front of my house and Evan and I hopped out of the car and ran inside to get the things we needed for about two nights, we could come back if I needed anything else. I grabbed some shorts and a long T-shirt to sleep in and two sets of clothing and a jacket, as well as some blankets and a pillow. I tossed all of this into a bag with my phone charger and a lot of other things. I then ran back down the stairs to meet my brother at the front door. As soon as we were about to walk out of the door we heard a voice behind us, "Where are you two going with all of that stuff?" the voice said, I turned around, it was my mother.

"Oh, I'm going to stay at Lia's house this week," I tell her.

"And I'm staying at Jackson's this week." I hear my brother lie.

"Oh, um, cool," My mom said looking concerned "Well your father and I have to go out of town this week anyway, Code business, so I guess it's ok for you to stay with them until we return. She then handed us the house keys, "in case you need to get into the house for some reason." She said, "Have fun!"

"Bye, Mom," I said.

"See you later, Mom." My brother echoed.

We left the house and got back into the car after putting our stuff in the back of it.

"Do you think she thinks that us staying somewhere else has something to do with what happened this morning?"  My brother asked, walking around the car to get to the driver's seat door.

"I don't know, I hope not" a pang of regret sparks through my body.

We began to drive up to Jackson's house, he lived in a small one-story house with his mother, according to Evan, his father died when he was six and his mother still cries herself to sleep over him. I couldn't help but feel sorry for Jackson, I didn't think that anyone could look at Jackson and think that something like that had happened to him because of the way he acts. He always had this charismatic aura about him that made it seem as if he was never sad.

"Be right back," Jackson muttered, getting out of the car and I wonder weather he really wanted to be here.

I watched as he walked into his house through the front door. I craned my neck hoping to get a glimpse of what was hidden behind that door, trying to get a look at anything that would tell me more about him, I immediately scolded myself afterward for being so nosey.

Jackson came back after a few minutes with a blue duffel bag in his hands. He got back into the car after placing the bag in the back of the car with the rest of our stuff. It was then that I realized that his eyes had the slightest trace of red as if he had been crying. I thought about asking him if everything was okay but Evan looked at me, the look in his eyes advised me not to say anything. I began to think that bringing him along wasn't the best Idea.

"So," Jackson said rubbing his eyes with his sleeve. "What happens at a sleepover?" He looked rom Lia to me, "are we gonna sit around with our pillows and gossip about our crushes?" Jackson smiled, all traces of him being upset were gone.

I smiled back "No, I was thinking we could watch a horror movie" I suggested.

Lia gasped, "OMG!!" she yelled, scaring me.

"What?" I said.

"We should invite Lillith and Nathan!" She said, "I have enough room for one night, It'll be fun!"

"ok," I said "We could see if their still at the hotel we left them at, they might not have checked in yet.."

"Woah, Woah, Woah," Evan said "Aren't we getting ahead of our selves? That makes six people staying at Lia's house tonight and I don't think her mom would approve of having two wanted rogues that we just met in her house" He looked straight forward, his face was unchanged, "Even if it is just for one night"

"Oh come on, Evan" Jackson said. "They need somewhere to stay and they didn't look like they have enough money for food"

Evan sighed, "Fine, but my parents can't hear about this, not after what happened this morning."

"We don't have to tell them," I said.

"ooh rebellious," Jackson teased. "I like it." He smiled.

"Ok I guess we have one more stop, Evan!" Lia said. "this is gonna be soooo fun!"

"What ever you say" Evan replied, I could tell that he still didn't think that it wasn't the best idea, and part of me agreed.
