I woke up and rolled over onto my side, oh my god, my head was pounding. I sat up and glanced around the room and took in my surroundings. Where was I? I had no idea. I got drunk last night, that's about all I remember. No, wait, I remember going home and getting into my bed, so why was I not there now?
Suddenly a nice looking woman walked in and grinned at me.
"Aw! Kayleigh, lovely, you're awake, I was beginning to wonder when you were going to come round."
What was going on here? Who was this woman?
"S-sorry" I mumbled. "I-I don't mean to be rude, but who are you and where am I?"
She laughed a soft twinkly laugh.
"Ah, that's quite alright doll!" I noticed that she had a light american twang to her accent. "My name's Mel, your mum brought you here last night when you passed out and she couldn't wake you up. You youngens and your drinking these days!"
I sat there shocked. My mum is going to be SO screwing.
"Where's my mum now?" I asked, not really wanting to know the answer.
"She's gone home, we can discharge you after we take a blood test."
*Later on that day when Kayleigh arrives home to her mum*
"NO KAYLEIGH, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'VE DONE THIS AGAIN! YOU'RE 16 YEARS OLD FOR GODS SAKE."
"JESUS MUM LIGHTEN UP, I GOT A BIT DRUNK! WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?!"
"THE PROBLEM IS THE FACT I HAD TO TAKE YOU DOWN TO THE HOSPITAL AGAIN, DO YOU KNOW HOW EMBARRASSING THAT IS FOR ME KAYLEIGH? IT MAKES ME LOOK LIKE A SHIT PARENT!" She paused. "I also don't think you realise how scary it is for me when you come home like that and you pass out and I can't wake you up. What mother wants to see her daughter in a state like that?"
That's when I felt my eyes welling up.
"I am so sorry mum, I don't think about that-"
She cut me off, "I know you don't Kayleigh." There was a harsh edge in her voice.
"Mum.."
"Kayleigh, I think it's time you moved out, I can't handle you anymore."
I was crying now.
"No, mum please"
"I've packed your bags, and left £500 on your dresser."
"You can't be serious."
I ran up the stairs, there were 3 neat little bags by my bedroom door and a thick wad of cash on my dressing table. I suddenly felt angry, she was my mum, how was she doing this to me! I grabbed the bags and the money. I opened my dresser draw and grabbed my Ipod, then ran down stairs and to the door.
"Have a nice life!" I yelled.
I heard my mums voice from the kitchen door.
"Kaydz, please I don't want you to leave on bad terms."
Kaydz.. my childhood petname, she never called me that anymore. I snarled and slammed out the house.
"It's abit too late for that."
As I paced down the street Ididn't even think about where I was going to go, I shoved in my earphones and put my Ipod on shuffle. The first song that came on; Stay Awake - All Time Low. It was a song I'd always been able to relate to nothing had been the same since my dad left.
Caught in a cold sweat, stuck splitting hair, drinking too much I'm on my way to striking out. Go to sleep with the pressure of everyone, watching and waiting they're yours for the taking but I still have my doubts.
Before you ask which way to go, remember where you've been. Stay awake get a grip and get out you're safe, from the weight of the world just take, a second to set things straight. I'll be fine, even though I'm not always right, I can count on the sun to shine, dedication takes a life time and dreams only last for a night.
Figure it out boy you're tripping so pull yourself together or you'll wash up like the rest. Cos' this ship is sinking I'm thinking I'm done for, watch as the sails disappear under water, cos' I'm no captain yet. I said before you ask which way to go, remember where you've been.
Stay awake get a grip and get out you're safe, from the weight of the world just take, a second to set things straight. I'll be fine, even though I'm not always right, I can count on the sun to shine, dedication takes a life time and dreams only last for a night.
Believe you, me, I'll give them everything, I'll tell them anything, to show them everything. Believe you me, I'll give them everything, I'll sell them anything, to show them everything. Cos' you ain't the only ones who wanna live it up, you ain't the only ones.
You ain't the only ones who wanna live it up, you ain't the only ones. (x3)
Stay awake get a grip and get out you're safe, from the weight of the world just take, a second to set things straight. I'll be fine, even though I'm not always right, I can count on the sun to shine, dedication takes a life time and dreams only last for a night.
