"I really don't know if I want to do this Jack.."

"I'm not being rude, but you don't have a choice." I said sternly.

We were parked across the road from Kayleighs house, we'd been sitting here for 15 minutes now. She was trying to avoid going to see her mum.

"Kayleigh please, it will all be okay, I promise you. It's so important to stay in contact with your family, you can't just block her out your life"

"I can." She shot a me, I sighed, god damn she was stubborn.

"What was the last thing she said to you?" I prayed it wasn't something like, "Never come back, bitch." Kayleigh paused.

"Please Kaydz, I don't want you to leave on bad terms." She whispered. I nodded and gently shoved her towards the car door.

"Go."

She got out and walked across the road.

KAYLEIGHS POV;

I walked away from the car and across the road, I fiddled with the house key in my pocket, did I use it or did I knock? I stood in front of the door, I decided on key. I opened the door and walked in, I weakly smiled at Jack before I closed it, he smiled back and mouth "It'll be fine."

I walked through the hall and stood at the bottom of the stairs.

"MUM?" I shouted. Nothing.

"MUM!" still nothing.

I ran up the stairs to her bedroom, there she was lying on her bed asleep. I watched her for a moment, breathing in and out, she looked so peaceful. I edged closer and and brushed her blonde hair out of her face. I gasped, she was a mess. She looked about 20 years older then she was. I gently shook her away. Her eyes flickered open.

"Hi mum.."

"OH MY GOD. LOOK WHOSE HERE!" She was already shouting, I knew this was a bad idea. As she sat up I smelt the drink on her breath, she been drinking excessively.

"You've been drinking mum.."

"You'd know all about that, wouldn't you." She snarled. I felt my eyes prickling with tears.

"I'm so sorry.."

"No, you're not! You have no idea, what you've put me thr- ou- ough." She was slurring and stuttering, she wasn't sober. I felt anger rising inside me.

"YOU?! What you've been through?! WHAT ABOUT ME? You put me on the streets, my own mother!!" I screamed.

"Don't you dare, shout at me like that Kayleigh James!" She got out of bed so we were standing face to face.  I said what I knew would hurt her the most.

"Kayleigh James? Kayleigh Cade. I don't know why I ever took your name after dad died."

I felt a hard blow to my face, I stumbled backwards, my left cheeked burned. I felt the tears falling.

"Kayleigh, I'm so sorry."

She had hit me..

"No mum, this isn't okay!"

I ran out of the house and into the car, I got in the back, I didn't want Jack to see me in this state.

"Kayleigh, what happened?" He leaned round to face me.

"Jack please, just drive."

"What's going -"

"Jack, please just drive!" I said sharply, he sighed and pulled away.

JACKS POV;

Kayleigh was in a state.. I didn't know what to say to make things better for her. She had a massive bright red mark on her cheek, I think her mum had hit her.

We drove in silence for about half an hour.

"I have to pull over here and get gas, okay?"

She nodded.

I got out and filled up. I watched her through the window, she was hugging her knees, tears still spilling down her cheeks. It broke my heart seeing her like that, it really did. I payed for the gas and climbed into the back with her. I pulled her into me so her head was on my chest. I stroked her hair as she burst into a stream of fresh tears. We stayed like that until she calmed down. I whispered into her hair.

"Wanna talk about it?" She still hadn't looked up at me, but I felt her shake her head on my chest.

"What ever happened, I'm sure she didn't mean it." She looked up at me then.

"She hit me, Jack." I shook my head, I didn't know what to say. " She was also wasted out her head."

"Shit happens." Oh well done, Jack! Such a brilliant thing to say. She smiled and shook her head at me.

"The wise word of Jack, aye?" I nudged her.

"Hey, I work hard on those!"

She raised her eyebrows. "I don't doubt you.."

"Good."

I don't even know what happened next, I just felt brave. I leaned in to kiss her. I felt her smile as our lips touched and she wrapped her arms around my neck. Finally, I'd been waiting for this.

KAYLEIGHS POV;

Kissing Jack was perfect, It just felt so right, everything about it just felt so asdfghjkl. Everything that had just happened melted away.

He broke away from the kiss & scratched the back of his head.

"We should probably get going now.."

"Yeah." I smiled.

"You gonna come sit up front with me this time?" He grinned

"Of course I am." I winked.

Just before he got out he kissed my forehead.

"You're a such a strong girl Kayleigh."
