It occurs to me that I haven't even payed attention in any of my classes and I have been planning what I'd do in Social Sciences. I find myself in class and everyone had already gotten up and sat with their partners. I hear someone cautiously say my name and I look over to where it's coming from and I find Cole looking in my direction, eyebrows raised in question.
"What?" I finally blink for my eyes to focus.
"Umm... we kinda have to--"
I cut him off, "Right." I move so I'm sitting next to him and I have my notes resting in my lap.
"So one of us needs to write the research report and we also should decide what people we want for test subjects." He states.
"I can get the subjects but I think it's better for you to write the report."
"Alright." He says writing that down in his little planner.
I turn around to Harlie and Blake who seem to be laughing uncontrollably, "Hey, would you guys mind being two of our test subjects?"
I apparently catch them by surprise and Harlie gasps and my sudden attention, "Yeah, yeah! Sure!" she answers rather quickly.
"Thanks..." I answer and turn back around to Cole who seems to be engulfed in his work. "What're you doing?"
"Writing." He answers.
"Writing what exactly?"
"The report, what else?"
"Oh I don't know, some crazy people do like to write stories for fun, you know."
"It's a rough draft."
"What else would it be, right?" I ask sarcastically. He keeps writing and I just sit, twiddling my thumbs. "How did you get to school today?"
"Huh? Well, someone drove me."
"Great, I'm driving you home." I inform him.
He hesitantly gets into my car, questioning if it was safe. "Don't be scared, I'm a licensed driver." I assure him. He finally gets in and he hugs his backpack to his chest. I pull out of the senior parking lot and I get cut off by another stupid girl who's too busy to be paying attention to the road. "Bitch." I mutter and I see Cole glance over at me, nervously. I continue to his house and I blast the radio, playing some Melanie Martinez. I pull into Cole's driveway within about ten minutes and we both get out, Cole pulling out his keys to the house. He opens the door and I follow him up to his room. "So I got Blake and Harlie to agree to be our test subjects." I inform him.
"Great." He says sitting at his desk and pulling the rough draft he had started in class out.
"So what do I do now?" I ask.
"Get more." He states.
"More test subjects?" I ask.
"Yes."
"Alright." I leave his room and march downstairs to find his mother in the kitchen cleaning some dishes. "Excuse me," I begin and she turns around and I see her tense, at the sight of me. "Would you mind being a test subject for our class project?"
"Uhh I mean if it's for class. What is it I will be doing?" She asks.
"We're just going to be asking you some questions, nothing drastic or involving chemicals." I assure her.
"Alright." She returns to her dishes and I assume that our conversation is over.
I return back up to Cole's room and find him now typing the report. "I got your mom to be another test subject." I announce.
