Jordan's P.O.V
-2 Years Later-
"Erica! Jerry! Come down here!"
I had the table set for our Saturday dinner, salty roast beef with mashed potatoes in gravy. Lyra made it herself, and it was one of our family's favorite meals.
A tall girl, twelve years old, with long platinum blonde hair that curled on the ends came in, holding hands with a miniature version of me. It was a young two year old boy with brown hair and chocolate brown eyes. Erica and Jerry.
Erica's complexion had changed a lot. She was much taller and had grown out her hair. Her blue eyes sparkled and her cheekbones made her look even prettier.
Lyra and I had talked about what we had to tell them during dinner. It was important, and they should know it. "Before we eat, your mother and I need to talk with you kids," I said. Jerry backed up, looking guilty. "Jerry, what's wrong?" I asked.
"Um..." Jerry stammered in his squeaky kid voice. "I flushed a ball down the potty..."
Lyra screamed. I turned around and saw her soaking wet. Toilet water covered her hair, which was all over her face. Jerry giggled, and Erica was laughing. I couldn't help but laugh with them.
"Are you laughing?" Lyra asked, annoyed. "Well, why don't you get some as well?" Before I could get out of the way, Lyra flipped her hair and got me wet as well. Soon enough, the whole dining room was wet. There goes a nice family dinner.
We all got cleaned up after that, and then we cleaned off the table. Jerry was still giggling by the time we were done. Lyra gave him a sharp look (her hair was still disgusting) and he shut his mouth quickly. I picked Jerry up and put him on my shoulder. He smiled again.
Lyra spoke. "Well, as Jordan was saying, we have something important to tell you." She hesitated. I could tell that it was hard for her to tell them her secret. "I'm...I'm a clone."
Erica didn't look surprised. Jerry, who didn't know what a clone was, looked confused. I realized that Erica must have caught on when she overheard me telling Lyra how she wasn't a clone anymore, although I thought she wouldn't understand.
"Well, no duh," Erica said. "How else would you be alive right now?" Jerry still looked confused. I exchanged a look with Lyra, and, without speaking, we decided to wait before explaining it to Jerry.
"How did you know I died?" Lyra asked suspiciously.
"Jordan-excuse me, Father- was all depressed, so I came to a conclusion that you were dead. And then I did research, and found out everything," Erica replied matter-of-factly.
"Can we get a kitty?" Jerry asked suddenly as we sat down to eat, ending the previous conversation.
Lyra looked at me, eyes telling me to answer. "Um..." I said. "I guess so."
Jerry cheered. Erica smiled, an excited look in her eyes. "Jerry, why do you want a cat?" I asked.
"Erica told me to ask for a kitty, so I did!" Jerry answered, giggling. Erica's cheeks turned a bright red and she looked away.
"Well, Erica has always been fond of cats," Lyra said, laughing. Her black hair was braided on the side of her head Katniss-style, and the red streaks shined in the braid. I liked the look, but she didn't wear it often. I wondered why.
Erica's eyes widened and she grinned from ear to ear. "So we can?" she asked excitedly.
"Sure thing, hon," I said. Erica squealed and squeezed my hand before hugging Lyra.
Lyra wobbled a bit. Since her left leg got damaged so much, she had to get a leg brace. But she could cover it up pretty well, still able to gain fans with her signature strut and smile up on stage. By the way, Lyra was still a famous song artist.
-At the pet store-
Jerry raced through the doors into the pet store, straight to the fish. Fish were his favorite thing at the time, and he was obsessed with them. Whenever he asked me or Lyra for a fish, we'd respond, "When you're older." A cat was enough.
Erica walked in the store after, going to the cat section. There were glass windows in the cat pens and signs next to the pen saying what the cats name was, how old they were, and why they were put there.
I followed Erica. Lyra went over to Jerry to explain to him why they couldn't run in the pet store and, once again, why he couldn't get a fish.
One cat had white, light brown, and chocolate brown splotched fur. It looked skinny and nervous, staring at me. It eyed me over a few times suspiciously, then, after knowing I wouldn't hurt it, turned away and started cleaning itself.
"Jake," Erica said after reading all the papers. "He's four years old, and he was a stray. They say he's only alive now because they rescued him and fed him before he starved."
"That's so sweet," Lyra whispered to me. I nodded.
"I want him," Erica stated.
Jake looked up at Erica and purred. She put her fingers between the cage bars and Jake rubbed against them. Yep, definitely the right cat.
A woman came over to us. She smiled politely. "Hello, are you interested in adopting a cat?" she asked.
Erica nodded. She pointed to Jake. "Him."
The woman smiled again. "Oh, him! You came at just the right time, he was going to be put to sleep today. No one seemed to want him."
Suddenly another cat caught my eye. Gray fur with black on the face, blue eyes. Her name was Carrie. Two years old, left behind when her owners moved away. I poked Lyra. "Hey, how about two cats?" I whispered.
Lyra's eyes widened. "Why?" she asked.
"I see my dream cat," I responded, laughing a bit.
Lyra groaned. "Fine, but I am not paying for the food or anything," she muttered. I silently cheered.
"We'll also take her," I said to the woman, gesturing to Carrie. The woman nodded and opened Carrie's cage. She gave me a cat carrier and took Carrie out, putting her inside the carrier.
Perfect life. Well, at the time. We were never prepared for what happened next.
