There was a time I had a family, and a home. But it's been a while since I've had such luxuries. And in that time the hatred and anger has faded to nothing almost. I see everything in black and white, people are either bad or good. I was born from the seeds of evil.
Nobody can save me, not my dead father, and most certainly not my spiteful mother.
No one except I can save myself.
"So..kid, will you accept the job?" Uncle Rex Saul asked in a solemn voice, his eyes filled with pity.
"Do I really have a choice?" I asked back with a glare.
Uncle Rex sighed.
"Listen Lucia, you have a choice whether you want a choice or not! I want you to make a choice, and I definitely don't want you to decide on this because you think you don't have a choice." Uncle Rex said. "We want you for your experience, but if protecting Dawn and Coleman Saul from the Dark Hunters seems to much for you, then we'll understand."
I turned the offer around in my head.
If I agree, I'll be a free person after having babysat two brats... But if I turn it down, I'll be on the streets marked as a rogue... The choices seemed unappealing, I could die at the hands of a Dark Hunter, or I could be hunted down as a rogue...hmmm... That really isn't much of a choice.
I sighed.
"I'll protect the two brats, but in return, I want a favor?" I put in.
Uncle Rex appraised me with his light blue eyes.
I was a skinny little thing with black hair that shone red at times. My eyes were dark brown, and my clothes were dirty with grime and what not. And I was homeless at that!
"What is this favor?" Uncle Rex asked with an eyebrow lifted at me.
"I want my name changed to Victoria." I said with finality.
"Are you sure?" Uncle Rex asked with a frown.
"I'll keep my last name, but I will not abide being called by a name that has no meaning to me." I said firmly.
"Fine. It's a done deal then." Uncle Rex said putting his hand in the air in front of me, "Welcome to the family, Victoria Saul."
And we shook hands, but in a corner of my mind I knew I was making a mistake.
That was just the beginning...
