It has been quiet for minutes now. The silence only making her worry more and more to what was about to happen next. She knew it wasn't going to be good but the tiniest bit of hope in her said it was going to be okay. And as long as she held on to that hope, she wasn't lost. Her hand palms warmed up when she saw the man whipping out his knives, not because she was nervous but because she was ready to use her powers as self-defense. He threw the knives up and caught them with his left hand, which was made out of metal. On top of his arm, there was a red star that reminded her of Steve's shield. There was a connection between him and Steve, that she knew. She knew the man from somewhere but it was a blur. It was something stored in the back of her mind that she desperately wanted to remember again.

"One day," he said, throwing a knife up again before catching it. He now stood behind her, pressing the blade of the knife against her throat. Valerie didn't dare to even flinch or swallow, scared her throat will be cut by the slightest actions she made. "No... they said a week," she mumbled once the knife was pulled back from her throat. Her head got pulled up with brutal force, forcing her to look into the dark blue eyes of the man. "One," he repeated more sternly before letting go of her face. He pushed his knives back into his utility belt before walking away from her towards the door. Valerie quickly broke free from the restraints against the chair as she ran towards the man, her hands glowing brightly, giving the room a radiant orange glow. "Give me more time!" she demanded, her eyes trained on the back of the man who stopped dead in his track, he shook his head without throwing a glance at her and he started walking away again. "You can't do this!" she yelled after him. Out of her hands sprung small bolts of electricity and just when she thought she had everything under control she accidentally threw a bolt towards the man. He, with his quick reflexes, dodged it and in a swift motion, he threw his blade at the woman who tumbled back and fell against the cold ground clutching her stomach.

Her eyes felt like rocks and she just needed to close her eyelids for a second. But the sound of a door opening and then metal against metal clinking stopped her from doing that. She opened her squinted eyes furthermore open to see Captain America barging into the room, his eyes trained on the blue-eyed man in front of him in shock. "Bucky?"

"Who the hell is Bucky?" he frowned before throwing a punch at the Captain who threw his shield at the man's head making him tumble a couple steps back before regaining himself again and lunging forwards to the blond.

"James Buchanan Barnes..." Valerie whispered in satisfaction as she finally knew why the man was so familiar to her. She read about him in a museum, she read much about the stories of Captain America and the Howling Commandos but the ones that stood out were the stories of Peggy Carter and James Buchanan Barnes, the sidekicks. Even though she despised the Avengers, Valerie still had the tiniest bit of respect for both Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner. Their backstories were tragic but they did everything in their power to not make the same mistakes and to make the world a better place...

Valerie couldn't see the outcome of the fight as her eyes closed more and more with every passing second they were fighting. The only thing she did remember when her eyes were shut was when strong arms pulled her up, the person also whispered things into her ear. Things that were nothing but a blur to her but she knew they were along the lines of: "It's going to be okay."
