Valerie and her mom looked around at the massive buildings around her. A university preserved for students with the best mind and life-changing ideas. Something Valerie had but chose to set aside for her work, which she loved doing for the record. Valerie's mom, May, had her gifted camera in her hand as she took pictures of the buildings, river whom she stood next to and her daughter.

May turned around from the river after snapping the perfect picture of a jumping golden fish. Satisfied with the picture she turned around to her daughter who was standing further away from her, taking pictures herself. "Valerie!" May yelled, making Valerie turn around to face her mother and her raised camera. "Give me that precious smile I love." She yelled. Valerie raised her hands up in the air and flashed her mother the biggest smile. And for the last time, her mother saw her child smile.

"Mom! Run!" Valerie screamed, her breathing hitched in her throat once she saw her mother disappear under a big blackout of this world- ship.

The sound of people screaming was all blurred out to Valerie. People pushed each other, helped but mostly ran and his for their life. The windows from the university cracked and in a matter of seconds it broke, glass flying everywhere. It didn't even occur to Valerie glass got stuck in her shoulder until someone pumped into her and the stinging pain in her shoulder came.

She screamed in pain. Of course, it was from the pain in her heart and not her shoulder. She watched how her mother got killed in front of her and everything went in slow-motion after it. She stared at the black ship that approached her fast but she froze. She gave up. Her mother died so what's the point of running?

Although most people ran for their lives, a man that passed her grabbed her arm and shook her awake from her freezing state. "Run!" he screamed at her once her brown eyes looked into his brown ones. She nods herself aware of her thoughts and ran next to the man away from the alien ship. And once they were out of the university they took a deep breath as they leaned against the abandoned cars. Valerie blinked her tears away as she stared up at the sky where a famous Avenger jumped out of the sky with his hammer. "Are you okay?" the unnamed man asked, crouching down next to Valerie and hugging her sideways in an attempt to comfort her. Although he didn't get an answer he knew her answer; she was broken. "I'm Winn," he whispered which made her look down from the sky towards the man, Winn. "Valerie," she whispered back, earning a smile from Winn.

The sky got dark and the clouds filled itself with lightning before thunder hit the buildings and cars around her. Winn stood up from the ground, scared how the thunder hit things closer and closer to them. But luck wasn't on Valerie's side today. A thunderbolt generated from Thor's hammer hit her small body. Her skin turned as blue as the clear waters of a beach for the time the thunder hit her. But when the bolt vanished, so did her blue skin.

She didn't feel any pain, though. She just felt the empty void in her heart from when her mother died and that was all. Nothing else. Winn looked at her in bewilderment. She should've been dead. She should've been a corpse on the ground. But she wasn't.

A week later both of them returned to America. They became close friends and were almost inseparable.

Valerie lost her mother, got hit by lightning but ended up with a new friend. The empty void in her heart was now filled. Filled with happiness that she got from Winn as a friend but mostly it was filled with hatred. She didn't show it though which made her hatred build up in her body every day more and more.

She hated Thor. The so-called Avenger that saves the earth and the people on it yet let her mother die. He was late and her mother died because of him attracting an alien to earth. He was the cause of her death and just like that you can despise the whole group of Avengers.
