New YorkValerie's day started great. The coffee shop at the corner of her apartment finally got her order right, her camera roll was cleared and the sun shone brightly. With her coffee in her hand and her camera hanging around her neck, she walked into the office and flashed every person passing by a wide smile. Yet that smile disappeared when the words, "Did you hear about Iron Man's rescue last night?" were said by her best friend who trailed behind her towards their shared office place. "I couldn't care less, Winn." she hissed, taking a sip of her coffee to calm her down.
"Come on. I know you hate them but— think about it. A photo of Tony Stark photographed by you, on the front page of Times." Winn said as he waved a hand in front of both his and Valerie's face.
She knew what game he was playing because he knew how much Valerie wanted her photograph showed on the first page. Both Winn and Valerie started working at Times after what happened in London. Two people with a bad history should stick together. And so they did.
"Convince me," Valerie said as she placed her cup of coffee on her glass desk. "Front page, promotion and an office on the same floor as the head chiefs." And Valerie was convinced and Winn knew as he ran out of the office towards the elevators. "Be at the Avengers tower at five!" He shouted. Promotion did sound interesting to her.
The sun slightly shone through the half-closed curtains, the sunshine landing on her shelve that had an old dusted camera on it. She glanced away from the camera before opening the curtains entirely. The sun shone directly in her face but instead of flinching away she looked at her glistering eyes in her reflection. Blue sparks flickered in her eyes but she chose to ignore it as she forced herself to look at the tower in the distance. The letter A shone brilliantly, letting the citizens of New York know who lived there and protected them. For a group of troublemakers, they were mysteriously quiet. If it wasn't for Iron Man rescuing a child yesterday, Valerie would've thought there were no Avengers anymore. Too bad for her, that was not the case.
The clock against the pale wall ticked loudly, telling Valerie to make a choice. Clearly, her choice was already made. It was going to be a quick shot of Tony Stark and she would leave the rest for Winn. Her photo was going to make the front page. She was sure of that.
