In the following weeks after then, I continued going to Lupin's Patronus lessons. He never did find a good substitute for a dementor, so I tried using the Boggart like Harry was doing. The first few times, it kept turning into a clown, freaking me out. However, I gradually began to worry that I wouldn't be able to get a dementor to come out, and so the Boggart started to turn into a dementor.
Me and Sirius kept in better contact, meaning I would send owls telling him everything that has been happening.
In the meantime, the game between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw was coming up. I intended to go and watch, for Harry's sake, no one else's. Which is why I couldn't wait until Harry got his Firebolt back.
"That was great, Aran!" Harry cheered as I successfully produced a shield. The first time since practicing on the dementor. I grinned at him.
Lupin joined me and got the boggart back in his trunk and turned back to me smiling.
"That was excellent." Lupin congratulated,
I sat down, the Patronus really took a lot out of me.
"Here, have some chocolate," Lupin said, giving me a big chunk out of the chocolate bar he held. I started eating in. "If you don't mind, what was your memory?"
I think back to it, trying to come up with every detail I could savor.
"When Kitty was in third grade, the school she was going to held a dance. It wasn't super fancy or anything like that, but the kids always made a big deal out of it and loved getting dressed up. So when it was Kitty's dance, she came to me to do help her get dressed instead of our mom." I smiled, "I felt so happy."
Lupin nodded.
After that, Harry continued trying to do a Patronus (I stayed back for the rest of the day) and when it was 8, we finally left.
We were walking back to our common rooms when Professor McGonagall came up.
"Potter!" she said, "I've been looking for you in the Gryffindor common room. Well, here it is, we've done everything we could think of, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it at all. You've got a very good friend somewhere..."
And just like that, McGonagall was holding out the firebolt. I couldn't believe my eyes. That was a real Firebolt. It was beautiful, and I'm sure it's much faster than the Nimbus 2001 I typically rode on, and that was a good broom.
"I can have it back?" Harry said weakly, "Seriously?"
"Seriously," McGonagall said smiling, "I daresay you'll need to get the feel of it before Saturday's match, won't you? And Potter -- do try and win, won't you? Or we'll be out of the running for the eighth year in a row, as Professor Snape was kind enough to remind me only last night..."
And she walked away.
"You've gotta let me ride that." I grinned at him.
"Of course." Harry grinned back
"Well, I should probably be getting back," I say,
"Yeah, see you."
"Bye Harry!"
I strut back to the Slytherin common rooms, I know nobody there has even touched a firebolt before. And I get to ride it! I was smiling when I came back into the common room.
"What are you so happy about?" Daphne sneered, seeing me come in.
I quickly come up with a good reason, I probably shouldn't tell Daphne that Harry's letting me ride a Firebolt.
