I heard a laugh from Shawn but it seemed off.
"And now everyone thinks you and Brian are dating."
I began to blush almost immediately. "Oh yeah, I saw."
My Instagram has been stormed from the night in the bar and everyone had of course assumed the new girl hanging around Shawn was his 'new girl'. I'd managed to handle it fairly well as I didn't post anything to indicate I was nor did I comment or reply to anything. But after my weekend visit on tour suddenly everyone had jumped ship and somehow come up with the idea that I was with Brian. It took exactly three pictures to get everyone off my tail, and while it was a little awkward, I embraced it. If those three pictures with myself and Brian closer in the frame got them to back off even just a little, then I didn't mind. If they thought my relationship was with Brian then they wouldn't be looking into me and Shawn.
"That's a little awkward isn't it?' I added.
"Yeah, I guess," he replied.
"But I guess if they think I'm with Brian it means they aren't watching you and I as closely, right?"
"Yeah probably."
There was a long pause on the phone as I sat back down at my desk before Shawn spoke again.
"So I saw you went out to the lake with everyone?"
"I did!" I smiled because I loved that Shawn was keeping up with what I'd been up to. Sometimes it didn't feel like he was always gone because of how up to date he was on everything.
"It was actually a lot of fun! Matt just messaged me randomly asking if I wanted to come out," I rambled, "so I did and everyone was there. It was kinda good because I knew a few of them from that night we all went out. But we just hung out and then went out on the water and then came back and drank around the fire."
"Sounds like fun."
I grinned to myself. "It was, I had a lot of fun."
"It looked like you did,"
"Yeah," I said slowly, becoming aware of Shawn's tone, "I did."
"You've gotten a lot closer with them," Shawn noted and I was now strongly picking up on something coming from Shawn. I wasn't sure what it was yet so I remained positive.
I shrugged as I went to take sip of my water. "Yeah, I guess so?"
Shawn still hadn't said anything once my water had gone down.
"Is that okay?" I asked.
"Yeah of course it is why wouldn't it be?"
"I don't know? You don't seem okay with that?"
Suddenly Shawn's voice brightened up and he spoke defensively. "No? I'm okay with it? Why would you think that?"
"Well, I don't know. Most guys I though would like that his..." I stumbled around which word to use because I wasn't his girlfriend. "I just thought guys just liked when the girl he was seeing got along with his friends, and you just... I don't know you sound... annoyed by it?"
"I'm not at all! I'm glad you're getting along with them. You're spending a lot of time with them. I'm glad!"
I didn't believe him so I said nothing. Although his words were in positive his tone it was still completely off as there was this tone of agitation in it.
I spoke softly as I didn't want to start anything but I couldn't help but react to his language.
"You just sounded upset by it."
