Chapter Three:
Tragedy
The dream continued, feeling more and more real.
All I remember was dropping to the hard, wet ground outside of the studio. Letting my phone fall with me.
Not being able to move.
I remember hearing a door open and screaming. Yelling.
"Laurie! LAURIE! Talk to me. What happened to you? Is she okay? Is she going to be okay?"
I faintly remember hearing Lou's panicking voice and seeing a blurred image of his face, above me.
I remember feeling something wet.
Louis' tears.
Hours later, I awoke in the emergency room. Hooked to all kinds of machines.
It took great energy to open my eyes.
But I did.
I moved my hand where I could see it, and laid eyes on the IV. Something was also in my nose. While my other hand was engulfed in a cast.
I found Lou, on his knees, on the ground beside my bed. With his head down, resting on my stomach.
The TV on the wall on. I looked for anything to tell me what time it was.
3:00 AM.
"Lou?" I called out, hoarsely.
I heard him stir.
"You're awake." He looked up to me and his blue eyes held great pain.
He bent down over the bed and kissed me lightly on the cheek.
Trying not to hurt me in the frail state I was in.
Lou moved my hair out of my face and grabbed my shaking hand. His touch was what I needed.
"Lay with me please." I pleaded, scooting over for him. Once we were settled, in the bed, I turned my body towards him.
Every inch, every muscle of my body ached.
"Don't move Laurie." he whispered as I winced in pain.
We sat, looking at each other for a moment. His blue eyes, locked with mine.
I swear a saw one single tear, silently, fall down Louis face.
"Why are you crying?" I asked.
"Because your okay. Your here,
You hit the ground hard. You broke your arm; trying to catch yourself. You could have broken more. You could have not been here right now."
His eyes were on my arm.
I moved my left arm and pain shot through it.
I knew that it hurt him when I was in pain.
"I don't remember." I said. More of a question then a statement.
Louis sat on the edge of my bed and took my hand, being careful not to move the needle in it.
