Chapter Twelve:

Arrangements

Our movie night took all the things that had been running through my mind, away. The feeling of having things constantly in your mind was unbearable. Like someone was screaming at you, telling you the darkest memories you wanted so hard to forget.

But all I had to do in that time was be in Louis' arms.

"You know Laurie," he whispered, cupping his hand underneath my chin,

"You are an amazing women. A strong women. I envy you. I want to be like you Laurie."

I kissed him, because words couldn't explain how grateful I was for him.

The phone rang somewhere in the dark room and I jumped. Louis laughed as I caught my breath.

I got up and turned the light on, searching for the ringing phone.

"Here it is."

He handed it to me.

I looked at the caller ID.

The same one that had called me the day of my mothers death.

"Hello?"

"Is this Laurie?" said the voice.

"This is she."

"I'm calling about your mothers funeral arrangements."

I took in a deap breath, and my gaze wondered to Louis in the kitchen, who just pouring a glass of water.

"Hold on a second please."

I heard a sigh on the other side of the phone.

"Louis?"

"Yes love?"

"I'm going out for a bit. For a walk."

Before I heard his answer, I was out the front door.

I pulled the phone back up to my ear.

"Okay," I said.

"I'd rather not do this over the phone Ms. Thorson, but do you think it would be possible to fly back to the states? So we could plan your mothers funeral."

'Your mothers funeral.'

I thought to myself.

That was a sentence I never thought I was to hear. Ever.

But here this man was. Saying that sentence, like it was no big deal.

Just like the man who had told me I had cancer.

"Yes. I think that would be possible."

I broke the silence.

"Good."
