Chapter Two: Giving Up Isn't in My Vocabulary

    I sit in a chair looking out the hospital window. Down on the track I watch as kids run around the hospital patients and nurses. I sigh to myself as I fiddle with the blanket in my lap. My hair in a tight braid that hangs over my left shoulder. I look around the room: a thing of new flowers sits beside the bed. A curtain divides the room in half even though I'm the only person in here and have seen since... I was put in here. A small rug is at the foot of the bed. I hold out my hand a small, weak, red flame appears and then dies down quickly. I start to think harder about the flame and it grows brighter. Come on! I say to myself and it finally turns gold. A little more! I say one more time, but it burns out and disappears. Three knocks land on the door.

Kanae "yeah?" I say looking over to the door.

Sasuke "you awake?" Sasuke's voice comes through the door slightly muffled.

Kanae "yeah come on in!" He opens the door. And Sasuke walks in with Master, and Minato. "Master! Minato!"

Minato "how are you." They sit on the hospital bed.

Sasuke comes and slinks down onto the floor next to me.

Kanae "weak" I sigh. "My flames aren't the same anymore." I look at my hand.

Master "let me see" I look at him confused "we'll come on"

Master has a bright smile on his face. Minato watches with pleasure. I nod and close my eyes. I hold out my hand a minute passes.

Sasuke "master come on, she clearly can't do it."

Master "Sasuke, give Kanae a chance"

Come on! I yell in my head just a small one! A small blue flame appears I open my eyes wide with shock than close my eyes again just a little more. I start to breath heavily. But a golden flame appears, I smile. Master nods, Minato smiles and Sasuke stares in shock but starts to stand up and kisses me on the forehead.

Master "we have a lot of work to do. But first you need to get your strength back up. Sasuke for a week take her down to that track and just let her walk." He smiles.

Sasuke "yes Master" he replies almost seeming like he doesn't want to. His eyes are soft but nearly closed.

Kanae "you don't have to help me Sasuke"

Sasuke "no I'll help, I mean I want to see you back to the way you were. I'm just worried that you're going to overdo yourself. I'm sure you remember when Tobi died all you did was train. All day and night there were countless times where I came out and found you passed out: soaked in sweat. And now you can barely create a small flame."

I nod and close my eyes, gripping the blanket I exhale,

Kanae "my dream" everyone looked at me confused "that wall... I dreamed about braking that wall. I didn't care if it killed me. If a few people died because of it or if a war broke out. I just wanted it gone."

Sasuke "well you did it." He began to walk out

Kanae "Sasuke, your sister... my brother. They are fine." He stopped for a moment than continued to walk out of the room.

Minato "don't worry about him. He is still upset that he can't find any of us. Besides the ones who were in the guilds"

I stand up. Shaky, but I manage.

Kanae "I honestly don't if they are okay. I just hate seeing so worked up. You know yesterday, I was able to make my sword appear, and jump out this window." We all look over to the window that now has a plastic covering it. "But I used the power of the Jorōgumos. Today my body feels like lead, my head is spinning. And all I can think about is how I screwed up. I can barely walk. Yesterday I swung my sword to cut down a tree and the sword just stuck. I was the one who went flying. Years ago, that would have been easy for me. But instead I slammed into a tree seven feet away." I lifted my shirt to revile a huge bruise "if only..."
