"Here's your drink, sir!" I faked a smile as I set a glass of whiskey in front of another sleazy man. He winked at me and a giggled to add a cute flare. I have to get tips somehow. I walk back to the bar to retire my apron for break. "YoungJin, I'm going on break. You want anything from the back?" I asked the hard-working bartender.
"No, thanks. Get back there and take a nap or something. You look tired," YoungJin laughed while washing the bar for what seemed like the hundredth time. Ouch. Do I look that bad? I usually wouldn't take offense to YoungJin's banter, but I haven't been sleeping or eating much lately and I guess that's taking a toll on my physical appearance. Nevertheless, I walked to the back to see JiSu working hard as usual.
"What's up?" I made my way over to the mini-fridge to grab a bottle of water. I grabbed JiSu a bottle too and sat it on her desk.
"Balancing checkbooks, paying bills, wanting to die," She sighed as she shuffled through the stacks of papers on her desk. If you knew JiSu personally, you'd know that she's the type of person that's naturally talented and charismatic. She's a young entrepreneur with no education beyond high school, yet she's such a success. She works hard for what she's got and she doesn't take pity on those who give up. Her motivation has kept me going.
"Eh, you'll be fine, JiSu. Did that guy ever call you back?" I was curious about a date she had been on about 2 weeks previous. JiSu looked up from her papers and narrowed her eyes at me.
"What do you think?" She scoffed. "They never call me back! I don't know what I did this time!" I laughed at her frustration, but in all honesty, I was slightly confused as to why men didn't pay more attention to JiSu. She was a tall, slender, dark haired woman. She had almond shaped eyes that were sweet yet sexy. She was a catch in my opinion. YoungJin walked through the door.
"YuNa, are you expecting company?" he asked. I shook my head. "Well there's some guys out there looking for you." I looked at JiSu and smiled.
"Probably those guys from the other night. You know the ones that got super drunk and kept trying to get me to dance with them," I laughed and so did the others. I nonchalantly walked out of the back room. I wish I hadn't left that room. I was, again, standing face-to-face with Imperium Syndicate.
NamJoon smiled and bowed slightly at me, "Hello, miss YuNa. How've you been?" His voice was sweet; no sign of spite lingered in his voice. Did he forgive me?
"H-hello, NamJoon, uh sir," I stumbled over my words.
"Nervous, are we?" He snickered at my immature stuttering. The rest of the men stood silently. I scanned over them. TaeHyung smiled at me when our eyes met. He seems like such a sweet man.
"Ha, um, I'm not nervous. Please, have a seat," I gestured to the booth in the back corner. I walked the group to their seats and watched each man sit down. They looked so out of place in this small bar. This bar is not by any means shabby, but Imperium Syndicate made it look like the crawl space of a strip club. "Would you like any drinks? Food, maybe?" I scanned over the men and they all stayed silent.
"No, thank you. What we want is for you to come with us," NamJoon smiled. His facial expression and his tone of voice did not match his request.
"You want me to come with you? Imperium Syndicate? Killers?" I whispered the last part to avoid scaring other customers. NamJoon laughed whole-heartedly and my remark even earned a few snickers from the rest of the boys. I stood in front of them, looking like a fool.
"So you've figured us out? Where's the red dahlia that I gave you a week ago?" NamJoon peered up at me.
"I left it at JiSu's apartment," I answered honestly. The flower was dying and I didn't see it necessary to carry a dead flower around, despite my complete fear of the wrath of NamJoon.
"I understand. And where is JiSu? I'm sure she want's to see her little brother," NamJoon smiled at TaeHyung who was busy fiddling with a button on his jacket to notice what was going on.
"She's in the back. I can go get her, if you want?" I offered. NamJoon nodded and I hastily went to the back room. As soon as the door closed behind me, I grabbed a fistful of hair and sighed. JiSu and YoungJin were understandably confused.
"You okay?" YoungJin asked, taking a sip of JiSu's water. I shook my head.
"What's bothering you, babe?" JiSu stood up from her desk and began to console me. I stayed silent for a minute."They're here," was all I could manage to mutter. JiSu and YoungJin gave each other concerned looks.
"Uh, who?" YoungJin asked. I took a sharp inhale. The words burned my tongue.
"Imperium Syndicate."
"What!" JiSu quickly let go of me and pushed me out of the doorway. She busted the door open. "TaeHyung! I told you to never come here with them!" She yelled, startling the few customers we had sitting around. TaeHyung stood up abruptly.
"Jisu! I've missed you!" He completely disregarded her anger and held his arms out for a hug. JiSu scoffed.
"Why are you heathens here?" She spat at the group. She's absolutely crazy! She knows who these men are! Killers!
"We've come to collect what now belongs to us," NamJoon stood up and like clockwork, the rest of the men stood up too.
"Are you talking about YuNa?" JiSu asked. NamJoon nodded. I belong to them now?
"Wait, what?" I looked back and forth between NamJoon and JiSu, searching for answers. I belong to them? Who said?
"When you lost our money, I gave you a red dahlia which is our symbol. You've been adorned with the flower of Imperium Syndicate. You're ours," NamJoon smiled, still no spite in his voice. His politeness and courtesy confused me. How can someone so dark be so charismatic and seemingly harmless? NamJoon left the booth, the others trailing behind him. He made his way to the front of the building and stuck his hand out. "Come, miss YuNa. You've got work to do."
