As soon as the loop was pulled over my head, without hesitation I ran straight towards the woods. I felt free and I once again felt the wind that I love through my fur. As I run I catch glimpses of small animals, rabbits, foxes and even small birds. The wilderness here is beautiful and filled with many animals.
I look behind me, surprised the alpha had just let me go but I don't question it. I continue to run when I can feel the power of the packs boundary approach. A dull ache forms in my chest but I ignore it using all my might to leave this place. The boundary is meters away and the ache gets worse, my chest clenching and tightening itself. My paw crosses over and I collapse from the pain that shoots through me from the tip of my nose down to the bottom of my tail, I shake with the pain. Struggling to breathe I use all four limbs to turn myself around and pull my body back into pack lands, my muscles have weakened and I struggle. As soon as I'm over like some kind of magic I feel better, the pain goes back down and i am able to stand upright. Testing if the same thing will happen again and walk closer to the boundary, the pain gets worse and I hurriedly move away tilting my head and looking at it with confusion.
"You can't cross the boundary without me," I turn to see the Alpha with a look of triumph on his face. "not until we have completed the mating process." I am confused and he can tell, yet he does not explain.
We walk back to the pack house quietly. I comply only because he threatened to get all the strongest wolves in his pack to carry me there if he had to. The silence is calming and his presence next to me doesn't agitate me like I thought it would, I look up to his face when he isn't looking and I notice the slight stubble that has grown on his face making him look all the more rugged and wild, his eyes reflect the sun with their golden hue and they catch my attention.
Arriving at the house he walks up the porch steps, they creak with his weight and he opens the door to walk inside. I stop, cautious. The alpha doesn't say anything and just waits holding the door for me. I figure I have to go inside sometime if I am stuck here. I only go in knowing it is not a trap as many wolves and their young reside here living peacefully Carefully I step over the threshold, being sure to keep my guard up as I do not trust anyone let alone this Alpha.
Loud noises attack my ears and I wince and pull my ears down trying to lessen the assault, before I can pay anymore attention to it though I catch an amazing smell, smells of meat and other different herbs assault my nose and I promptly make my way towards it. Finding myself in a room with many different machines with many different uses, there are shelves and cupboards containing countless different items of food and my mouth waters at the sight.
"Ahhhhh!" someone from the other side of the room screams pointing towards me, I look at her uninterested. If they pose no threat then I will not harm them, though if they push my buttons too much I could slip, accidents happen you know, I snort loudly at the thought.
Ignoring the pathetic screams from the woman and cowering of the others and I make my way through the room. Walking towards the wonderful smell I lift my body and put my front paws on the counter grabbing the edge of the largest bowl lined on the bench I turn around and notice the alpha at the entrance leaning on the door frame with an amused look on his face, I ignore him and trot past him with the bowl in my mouth. I take the bowl into a room across from the entrance area, it has a large wooden table and at one end is two large chairs that capture my interest, they are carved with pictures of wolves and moons, names and all kinds of different symbols. On the walls hang detailed images each containing a man and a woman who stand together, love in their eyes.
"They are the past Alpha's and Luna's of this pack" he says with pride in his eyes. "Those were my parents" touching the frame of the painting he goes silent, like remembering some kind of memory.
I settle in the corner of the room, being sure that there are no angles in which the food could be taken from me. I ignore the Alpha's presence and focus on the large meal in front of me. Digging in this is one of the best meals I have ever tasted and I savour every bit of it. After eating only raw meat for the whole of my life, or the life that I can remember this is euphoric, I bask in the unknown flavours and unknowingly let my guard down food distracting me.
It's not until I finish the meal that I notice the people in the room and the noise that comes with them. They all sit around the table talking and laughing completely ignoring the rogue only meters away. The Alpha sits at the head of the table in one of the grand chairs, the other empty, he smiles along with his pack that laugh in delight enjoying the meal and the feeling of belonging filling them all. I know that I should belong in a pack but the thought of it irks me, how can these people place such trust in one another.
I quietly observe the pack surprisingly not feeling the urge to leave the room intrigued. I watch partners press their lips together and mothers feeding children but most of all each person caring for the other, helping them. somehow I find it interesting watching them and how they act, it is not how I expected, they must be putting on some kind of act to deceive one another, is what I think to myself.
I turn from my position in the corner of the room and catch the Alpha looking towards me, we maintain eye contact for a few seconds, just staring. Before I can get up and leave a man bursts in the door.
Surprisingly calm like he's been trained for this the man alerts his leader "Alpha, there have been rogues spotted crossing the border."
With that said I go into a frenzy, I haven't been able to hunt and kill for a long time and with the news of rogues on the land I am up within seconds and sprint out the door. Stopping on the porch before the stairs I lift my nose up to the sky and catch the sent of the rotten smelling rogues. Without any uncertainty I jump down discarding the steps and run into the nearby woods, like a beast who cannot be deterred my breath comes out in deep puffs each time my paws hit the ground.
Still tracking the rogues I discover the sent has turned to a different direction and I turn without any lapse in my strides. Finally slowing down when the sent gets stronger i crawl behind nearby bushes and tree's, making sure I cannot be seen. I spot the rogues up ahead and instead of stalking them and observing their behaviour I can't hold back, the anticipation the the kill driving me. I spring from my hiding place and jump on one's back, he yelps from surprise and I use my claws to cut through his back like a knife, it's deep and I think I can see bone. I leave him and grab another's throat between my jaws ready to rip it out, before I know what is happening I feel a searing pain on my side and notice a rogue pulling its claws through my skin, they attempt to pull me away but I don't let go of the rogue's neck and his oesophagus is ripped out within seconds.
I continue to fight the rest of the rogues but there is too many, still i don't give up but, gain more injuries, i can fight them off, though the bites and cuts may be too much for my body. I turn around only to see a rogue charging towards me and just as we are about to collide another wolf intercepts and knocks it to the ground, I can smell the sent of the Alpha and our eyes connect.
