"Her mind is deliciously improper and her body is an aphrodisiac." - Alfredo Cano (This has nothing to do with the story but I like it so here it is)
Pic is of Alpha Kaden Scott
Ominscient P.O.VHazel's eyes fluttered opened and immediately closed as she woke to her alarm at 7:30 AM. She hadn't intended to sleep in for so long, but she was tired and stressed because today was the Annual Chase.
The dull ache in her ribs had faded but it still hurt if she breathed to deeply. Hazel slid out of bed and got ready for the day with a mix of melancholy and wishful thinking.
It would be Hazel's first year in the chase, she only being 18. She had become a legal adult exactly two months ago on March 22. Now it was May 22, the day all she-wolves 18-25 feared.
Hazel refused to get caught, especially by an alpha and even more especially by Alpha Kaden Scott. Hazel had made up in her mind that he was a bad person. He had murdered his parents to become Alpha when he was 17 which meant he was very strong.
Hazel thought that she had a good chance of not being captured.
Her wolf was black, which it would make her harder to see in the woods and she was strong and fast. But was she fast enough?
She got ready to leave getting dressed, putting her hair into a ponytail, and then putting her hood over her head. Hazel wanted to be as invisible as possible.
On her way down the steps she noticed her mother was still sleeping.
'Screw saying good bye. She doesn't even care.' the young she wolf thought as she proceeded down the steps.
Hazel exited the house and made her way to the field where the race was being held.
The forest looked warm and inviting. She couldn't wait to be done with this, she thought as she lined up in her correct section.
The females were divided up into sections by their age, and in that section they were further divided by strength.
Hazel walked up to a man sitting behind plastic table.
"Um. Excuse me? I need my tag." The she-wolf said politely.
"Sure. Name?" he said, not looking interested.
"Hazel Dominic." she stated clearly.
The man, who could have been at least 20, looked through the tags uninterested until he pulled out Hazel's.
"Here you go. First section back there and your strength is a 10/10." the male said, suddenly intrigued by the brunette. She was strong pretty, and young: something all males looked for in a mate. He was definitely going after her, he thought to himself, and if not her then that blonde over there.
Hazel ignored his stare and went to the correct section, where there were a few other she-wolves from neighboring packs. All of them looked nervous as the males looked over their section with hungry looks in their eyes.
Hazel stayed toward the back of the crowd and looked at the males checking them out with disgust. However one male caught her eye.
Alpha Kaden Scott stood still staring at the she-wolves.
Hazel watched his obsidian eyes scan over the rest and then directly land on her.
Hazel's breath caught in her through as the chiseled alpha roamed her body with his orbs.
Suddenly feeling nervous, Hazel looked down, and when she looked back up Alpha Kaden Scott was not there. She couldn't help but feel a small tinge of disappointment, but then she reminded herself that she couldn't get caught.
Hazel tried not shudder in disgust as the other males looked at her silhouette with greedy looks in their eyes.
After the picking and choosing was done, the announcer spoke.
"Welcome Ladies and Gentlemen to the Annual Chase!" Alpha Mason said with such enthusiasm you would think he was participating.
The males roared with glee and Hazel was pretty sure she heard some girls crying.
"Now for the rules. Females, if you get caught you automatically become that male's mate. However the male can reject you and you will have wait until next year to get another mate. And of course if you finish the race without getting caught, you don't have to get a mate. But that has never happened and I doubt it ever will." Hazel's alpha said laughing.
The males joined in the laughter too. The idea of a female being stronger than them was a comical idea to the male wolves.
"Men, the female get a 60 second grace period and if you catch a women she is your mate, but you can reject her. If a girl passes the finish line without getting caught then you cannot claim her."
"And as a final announcement we are glad to have Alpha Kaden Scott finally participating!"
All attention turned to him and cheers were heard. His face remained stoic as he nodded towards Alpha Mason.
"Now finally! Let the Chase begin!"
All the males cheered, pumping their fist in the air and eyeing the she-wolves with hungry looks.
Hazel went to the starting line along with others and prepared to run the fastest ten miles of her entire life.
After everyone was lined up, Hazel's Alpha began the count.
"On your mark,"
Hazel's body shifted into her black wolf, and the other's did the same.
"Get set"
She bent her legs, getting ready to take off.
"Go!"
A giant air horn took off and Hazel ran like hell.
