Hazel breathed deeply and felt the knife slowly dig into her neck. Kaden stared at the man behind her with so much hatred that even she wanted to cry. However Elijah didn't cry. He smiled and swiftly as a cat, he removed the knife from Hazel's throat and turned her around so she was facing him.

Hazel gasped as she looked at the man. He was beautiful, but not as beautiful as her beloved mate. The thing that separated the two the most was that Kaden had a warm look of compassion in his eyes every time he looked at her. Elijah had only a cold red orb that was filled with hunger.

A smirk made it's way to his face and he brought up his hand, stroking Hazel's face with the side of it. Hazel looked away, repulsed by the touch of this man. She shivered in disgust and behind her she heard Kaden growl.

"Let go of her." he growled out.

Kaden had rage coursing through his veins. This vampire had the audacity to touch his mate, his princess, his Luna. He knew right then and there that he was going to kill Elijah.

Elijah let Hazel turn toward Kaden and he roughly pushed her toward him.

"My castle isn't ready for her yet anyway." Elijah said in a rather bored tone. His british accent was heavy.

"You are never taking her." Kaden pronounce, softly pushing Hazel behind him.

The brunette peeked over Kaden's shoulder and watched the men argue. She had no idea what had happened between these two, but she knew it must have been bad. Hazel then took time to look around the restaurant. There were still wolves huddled under tables, staying out of the way.

"Of course I'm not going to take her," Elijah spat out, "yet."

He chuckled, an evil glint in his eyes. He stared at Hazel and his smile grew bigger. She was beautiful, she would make a perfect queen for him. But first, he needed to have his fun.

Kaden growled lowly, warning Elijah to back off. This only made him laugh louder. Kaden lunged forward at him, but he quickly dashed over to behind him and grabbed Hazel again. This time he put his head in her neck and inhaled the scent of her blood.

Elijah hummed with delight. She was absolutely perfect.

Kaden tried to grab his mate again, but Elijah sprinted them over to the other side of the restaurant. When they were there, Elijah waved to one scared pack member with a cruel smile on his face.

Even though Hazel didn't know the man, she already hated him. She automatically hated someone who took pleasure in seeing other people's' fear.

"Stop running like a coward." Kaden said, eerily calm.

Elijah appeared right in front of him. He pushed Hazel into his chest and Kaden's arms automatically wrapped around her small form.

"I'll be back Scott." Elijah warned and then before both of them knew it, the doorbell jingled and he was gone.

Back at home Kaden kept asking Hazel if she was alright. She was still a little shook from what happened earlier at lunch at that day. They were both in the dining room, Hazel was sitting down and Kaden was standing over the fireplace.

"What happened between you two?" Hazel finally asked. The curiosity had been killing her ever since they got home. She couldn't keep it in anymore.

He sighed and rubbed a hand over his face debating whether or not to tell her.

"It's fine. You don't have to tell me." Hazel said, mistaking his thoughtful look for one of annoyance. He couldn't help it. It was just his face.

"No," Kaden said curtly, "I'll tell you." and so he did.

At the end Hazel sat there wide-eyed still processing the information.

"I see," She whispered, "You too just need to kiss and makeup."

Hazel cringed at what she just said. It was totally inappropriate for the situation at hand, but the words fell out of her mouth before she could stop them.

"Sorry," Hazel whispered meekly, "They just kinda fell out of my mouth and I couldn-" She was cut off when Kaden started laughing. But as it came quickly it ended the same.

Then he let out another laugh, except this time it was humorless and cold.

"Don't you think I've tried." Kaden spat out.

Hazel flinched at his words and tone of voice. Only her father ever spoke to her like that and it immediately brought back flashbacks. Tears slowly pricked at her eyes and she looked down letting her hair cover her face.

"I'm sorry." She whispered again.

Kaden looked down at his mate guiltily. He didn't mean to snap at her, he was just angry. He needed to be more careful with her, she was too sensitive. He walked over to her from the fireplace and knelt down on one knee where she was sitting.

Kaden took his finger and lifted up her chin. His heart automatically broke when he saw her red eyes and a single tear flow down her cheek. She tried to put her head down again but he wouldn't let her.

He wiped away the tear and caressed her face.

"It's fine. I was just angry I shouldn't have snapped at you." he apologized.

Hazel smiled and took his hand away from her face. A knot formed in Kaden's stomach at the cold gesture.

"No. I'm sorry. I know you're tired and I shouldn't have said anything." Hazel said quickly.

Kaden had brought back memories of her abusive father with his words and Hazel wanted nothing more than to just leave the room and cry. She still didn't know what she did to receive all those years of torture.

Yes, her ribs had healed, but there were still scars: mental and physical.

"I'm going to go take a shower and then I'll get started on dinner, OK?" Hazel said.

Kaden could do nothing but nod. He had screwed up big time.

Even though Kaden didn't know about Hazel's father, he knew that he had screwed up. He didn't know how, but he knew he did. She was sensitive and obviously something had caused her to make her so cold all of the sudden.

What was his little mate hiding?
