I ran up the stairs in front of the school and through the door that a petite girl was holding open for me, I nodded to show my appreciating and ducked my head as I walked past the front office, not wanting to get caught tardy. I managed to avoid all teachers and staff and made it into my homeroom without a late on my record. Halfway through our morning study period, a young lady with brunette curls walked into the room and asked if a River Sylone was present. I raised my hand and she smiled at me, waving her hand to show that she expected me to follow. I wearily got out of my chair and walked out of the room, following behind her as she told me that she was the counselor and always checked in on new students. We walked into her office and I took a seat on a beige couch as she closed the door behind me and sat on a ratty, old, faded red office chair and turned to face her computer. She talked while she typed an email, "So, how do you like the school? Made any friends? Favorite teachers?"
I paused not wanting to say what kind of friend I had made, "Uh, the school is nice, it's really big and all the teachers are pretty helpful."
"Good to hear," She sent the email and swiveled in her chair to face me, "How are you doing socially?"
"Fine."
"Come on, have you made any friends?"
"Yes."
"Who?"
"Skylar Park."
"Oh, really? That's nice."
She sounded surprised by who I had befriended and I was determined to inquire as much about her as possible, "Ya, I don't know much about her though..."
"Well, I can't tell you much, but what would you like to know?"
"Just basic stuff; When she moved here, what clubs she's in, that kind of stuff."
"Hmm, well I know she was a new student midway through last year and she isn't a huge part of any school activities."
"Cool." I didn't know how else to answer.
"Oh, I'm Mrs.Higgs just so you know, and if you need anything just stop by my office." She stood up and opened the door for me.
"Ok, bye."
I walked out into the hall as the bell rang and kids fled out from doors on every side of the school. I headed towards my locker, sliding past the chatting crowds. After maneuvering through the sea of kids, I saw Sky leaning against my locker. I walked up to her, "Hey..."
"Hey Rivey."
I opened my locker and grabbed my method acting book from the top shelf. Sky slammed the door shit for me and we walked side by side to our next class. She let out a quite chuckle, "What's so funny?"
"You have a 'bruise' on your neck." She allowed herself a louder laugh now.
"Fuck, Sky, seriously it isn't funny." For once I was the one who dragged her. I lead her into the bathroom and walked up to the mirrors as the bell rang. She sat up on the sinks and waited for me to decide what to do. I examined my neck in the mirror, "So, whatcha gonna do?" I grimaced at her, "I mean are you embarrassed to show that you have a lover or what?" She raised an eyebrow at me and her pupils dilated as she stared through my eyes. We didn't break eye contact as she hopped off the counter and walked over to me, positioning her fingers around my waist to pull me closer. She pressed her forehead against mine and breathed, "It's a mark of love." Before she crashed her lips against mine. My eyes fluttered closed, but they shot open when I heard the distinct sound of a locker closing nearby. I pushed Sky away by her waist and looked around to see if anybody could have possibly seen us. I gazed out into the hallway and my eyes locked with a boy who had quite clearly seen everything based on his expression. He stared back at me for a second before running down the hall and dropping a paper on his way. I mumbled and walked out of the bathroom, honestly not caring if Sky came along or not. We got to our next class a few minutes late and the instructor gave us a look of death. Sky tried to apologize the entire class while I did my best to ignore her. As soon as the harsh sound of a bell released us, I immediately headed towards my next class, completely abandoning Sky.
