I looked up to see that the girl had jumped off the bench and was standing above me, watching me turn over with a sick smirk.
"What the he-"
"Sky isn't gay, you need to leave."
She started walking away, "No! I'm not gonna fucking leave! You're just a goddamn homophobe, scared of us are you?"
I pushed myself to my feet and I instantly regretted saying anything. She whipped her head around and came back towards me. When she reached me, she took hold of both my shoulders and threw me down again, giving a few kicks to my ribs. She slapped my face before gripping onto my fresh piercing and yanking it out of my skin. I yelped in pain and watched her jog away, looking around to ensure no one had seen our little quarrel. I lied there on my back, whimpering with every shaky breath, remembering the guy for the first time in a few days, cringing at the recollection. I stared at the clouds, the puffy, white objects clouded by a layer of tears in my eyes. I wanted to stand up, but pain overtook my desire to go confide in Sky. I lied there, praying someone would stumble upon me, but no one did, that is until I heard a familiar voice shouting, "River!? River where are you!?"
Sky ran around the corner of the motel and into my sight, she got faster when she saw me on the ground, "River, what the hell happened, why didn't you have your phone, I've been looking for you!"
She picked me up and carried me bridal style back to our room, she was surprisingly strong for such a skinny girl.
The door was propped open when we returned to the room and she hurried through it, gently placing me down on the bed. She slid my shirt up to assess the damage and started talking, "Who did this?"
I could barely make words when she pressed on my ribs, to see if I flinched, so my voice was strained, "Your sister."
She stopped dead and looked at the door, I couldn't tell what was going through her mind, but I tried to keep my mind off the pain by thinking about how hot she looked when she got protective.
"You need to go to the ER, I think you have broken ribs."
She pulled out her phone and dialed three numbers. In a short period of time, an ambulance arrived in the parking lot of the motel. Paramedics rushed up to our room and quickly got me set up on a stretcher. I whined as the board bounced, being carried down the stairs. Sky walked next to me with a blank, emotionless smile. I was lifted into the ambulance and I heard Sky talking to one of the guys, "I need to go with her."
"What's your relationship to the patient?"
"I'm her girlfriend."
"I'm sorry ma'am, but non blood relatives cannot ride with us."
I wanted to scream at them to let her in, "What if it becomes legal and there's information about the case that I know?"
"Look, I'll make an exception because you were the one who phoned us, but now I'm legal obligated to report this as a case of abuse and you'll need to be questioned."
She agreed as she stepped in the running vehicle. She sat by my side and grabbed my hand, tapping rhythms with her thumb.
When we got to the hospital, I was brought into a room and Sky was directed to a waiting area nearby. The doctors removed my shirt and brought an X-ray machine over me. A light flashed and they left the room, one of them returning with the image, he hung it up on his board and the fuzzy picture meant nothing to me without his explanation, "You appear to have four broken ribs on your right side and two on your left, I can prescribe drugs to ease the pain, but since you're a minor, I'll need your parent's consent, would you care to phone them?"
