jonathan got off of his car and walked to will's laid bike. he grabbed his camera and entered the evidence–bounded area, which was somewhere outside the woods. when he saw his little brother's bike, he couldn't help but feel a sharp tug in his chest.

"where are you?" he looked around and took a picture. he took another and another. he walked around the bike and accidentally stepped on a large piece of wood. he groaned and moved it over for the angle he was trying to achieve, but under the wood.. was a gun.

jonathan felt his heart drop to the soles of his shoes. he furrowed his brows as he bent down to study it. he knows that guns like that aren't sold here, he remembers his father going on and on about the type of guns. this was a handgun that was used for the army. he took pictures of the gun. once he put his camera down, he sighed deeply with his gaze attached to the weapon.

he pulled up his sleeve and turned it over, tying not to get fingerprints on it. there was no brand, label, or a serial number. he furrowed his brows. suddenly, he heard a shriek form not so far away. he began running to where he heard it from, racing to the high–pitched yell. the screaming continued the closer and closer he got. but once he finally got to where it was from, he stopped.

carol was shrieking as tommy has carrying her in front of the pool. "one! two! three!" carol shook her tiny legs and was hitting tommy. "stop it tommy! don't!" tommy began laughing and put her down, not throwing her on the pool. "you're such an asshole, tommy!" carol said through gritted teeth as she shoved him.

slowly, rock music became amelia's favorite genre. as she looked at the starry sky, she's realized that the lyrics would just correlate with her. even though it had the heavy guitar and loud drum, amelia understood what the singer was trying to say.

and that night alone with the calm vibes... it made amelia feel something she's wanted to feel.

normal.

as she sighed softly, she glanced around her. she noticed barb in her tense state of having her hands crossed and sitting straight. "hey, barb!" amelia called. the ginger turned with no expression to amelia. "you should have a cigarette!"

tommy, carol, and steve started laughing at her comment as nancy began to chuckle faintly. she agreed that barb needed to loosen up, but that's not what amelia truly meant. barb scoffed, "i don't smoke."

lia softly furrowed her brows as she laid back in her seat. she didn't mean to sound rude if she did. amelia read that they calmed the nerves... so why wouldn't someone like barb smoke? — well that's because amelia didn't know that they were bad for you.

again, the noirette looked up to the sky, seeing the stars once more. she grew a smile watching them twinkle. she assumed that as a kid, she'd love the stars. especially on such a tranquil night like this.

her attention to the sky didn't last long when she felt steve's warm body hover over hers. "sorry." he grunted lightly as he fell back to his chair with a can in his hand. amelia's timid eyes stared as he began poking the bottoms of the can. "it's fine." she mumbled, bringing her focus to the can.

she didn't know what he was doing, but when the knife that he was poking the can with suddenly entered it, steve began chugging. amelia gulped and watched with amazement. she didn't know how but... she found it... attractive? she stood up from her seat and walked away, wiping her mouth.

"was that supposed to impress me?" nancy smirked as steve finished the can. "you aren't?" he asked with a scoffed. amelia tapped on his shoulder before he could comfortably sit down. "where's your bathroom?" she asked, pulling her arm back rapidly.

he turned to her, again, falling into the trance. "uh," his throat grew dry. "it's uh, down the kitchen and then a left." he explained quickly. amelia nodded surely and glanced at nancy with a humble smile.

she walked up the stairs, not even realizing the first step. she almost tripped but caught herself. she heard a few small laughs, making amelia not want to look back. instead, she bit on the inside of her lip and sulked to the inside of the house.

once she reached the restroom, her eyes fell to her reflection on the clean mirror. she froze at who she saw. ever since her escape, amelia never truly got a good look of her face. of what the whole fuss was about when guys would stare or when girls would give her a small stink eye.

she slowly walked closer to the mirror, resting her two hands on the sink. she reached one to her face, touching her freckles.

she thought that she didn't look like the girls in hawkins. but now, she knows damn well that she doesn't at all.

amelia sighed softly, standing up straight with a small frown. a sudden mood change ruined her night. and she couldn't put her finger on it. just a few minutes ago she was enjoying the music and the sky and even some of the people around. but now, it's all gone.

she bit on her lip, looking away from her reflection. "screw this depressing crap." she sighed as she reached for the knob.

she turned off the light and turned to close the door. as she turned away, she was stopped when steve walked up to her. "oh!" the two exclaimed. they fell out into a small laughter as they both moved to the same side. "sorry." amelia mumbled. steve shook his head as again, they moved, just getting in each other's way.

"i-i'm sorry." he laughed. he moved left, letting amelia walk out to the hall. "it's fine." she walked away. "but you're not." amelia softly furrowed her brows and slowly turned to him. cautiously, she walked back. "how long were you there for?" she asked.

steve began shaking his head as he took a sip out of his can. "not long." he answered. he crossed his arms over his chest. "just hearing something about screwing depressing crap." amelia scoffed with a sly smile and a shaking head.

she walked towards him. he looked to her with a smirk and his head tilted back. "you good, lia?" he asked monotonously. "one hundred percent." she answered, sounding quite witting. "hm." steve warmedly smiled. amelia made her smile like his, "hm." she repeated.

he couldn't help but let out a small chuckle. he took a gulp of his drink as he still had his eyes locked to hers.

amelia felt this pull between the two. she was confused, twitching her brows at some point but she liked it. she liked the confusion and the tug she felt when she was around him. the teenage girl didn't know what it was, not minding to figure out anytime soon.

"come on." steve sighed as he began walking away. he latched his hand to her wrist, again feeling that shock from under their skin.

the two let go, looking down to their hands. "why does that always happen to us?" steve chuckled. lia knew that steve was a little under the influence. she let out a nervous laugh as she tugged her left sleeve. "probably just the humidity or something." she mumbled timidly. steve looked up from his hand and dropped it. "probably."

the two walked slowly to the pool. but once they heard tommy yell, "wheeler's gonna do it!", steve laughed excitingly. "hell yeah!" he held onto amelia's hand again, but this time, there was a no shock. instead they fell as if they were two puzzles pieces.

but from between the two, amelia seemed to have been the only one to notice...
