during the duration of the car ride back from the parking lot of the restaurant, amelia explained everything with detail to steve. from the night she first met jonathan byers, to the party at his place, to what she has been doing all day. it all came out. it had to.

steve parked his car somewhere by the quarry. amelia let her nerves spike up as that was where they found will's body. well, his fake body.

"and you managed to hide this all from me?" steve said suddenly. amelia licked her lips and nodded. "yep." she popped the 'p'. the boy was amazed at how hard he was played and lied to. "and i totally did it to hurt your feelings." amelia added charmingly. steve narrowed his eyes at her, a small smile growing on his lips at her use of sarcasm.

"i thought we were friends." he muttered, his smirk still in place. amelia rolled her eyes. "we are!" she shoved him lightly and playfully.

"friends don't lie." steve said. amelia shook her head and dropped her gaze to her legs. "i didn't lie to you." she corrected. "i more so.." amelia sighed deeply as she thought of the right words. "kept something from you." steve looked down to her, trying to catch her stare again. and with his smile, he did.

he liked it when she stared at him for too long.

amelia did her best to break the gaze and avert her eyes out to the quarry. "lia," steve called. amelia faced him. "yeah, steve?" he twitched a tiny smile at the way she said his name. "i don't know what it is," he began. "but something about you is literally driving me insane."

amelia stifled a laugh, finding it hard to believe his words. steve continued, "and no, it's not the whole 'i–can–turn–anything–to–a–weapon or a i'm–scared–shitless–that–you'll –assassinate–me thing." amelia continued to laugh, covering her mouth.

steve still held down his stare and his smile. that alone was driving amelia just as crazy. probably more. "what d'you mean?" she finally dropped the grin, letting curiosity get the best of her and ask too quick.

"how someone like you could just stomp into my life and change the way i think."

amelia's brows spiked up. she uneasily giggled, thinking steve would laugh, too, but he didn't. he just sat and looked at her. "i like you, amelia."
