Chapter Eleven

My breathing was surprisingly even as Ace pulled away from me.  His eyes were dark and glassy, his steps away from me were more like long strides backwards.  I could tell he was trying to get some space between us but all I wanted was for him to come back to me.

His scent was everywhere, nothing else mattered.  I didn’t care about oxygen or food or water or whatever else is essential to human survival, I just wanted Ace’s scent.

My blood was burning, literally scalding me from the inside, setting veins and arteries aflame and searing the little capillaries.

It’s lust.  My thoughts reminded me.

“So it is true?”  I asked, my voice wavering slightly.  Ace just nodded, a cluster of his thick black hair falling in front of his face.  “And you’re a demon?”  Ace nodded again.  “And you knew what I was all along?”

“What did you want me to do?”  Ace asked, his tone rising into one of frustration.  “You want me to walk up to you and tell you you’re a succubus?”

“Sam did,” I bit back.  Ace’s eyes visibly darkened at the mention of Sam’s name.

“I’m not Sam,” he said through gritted teeth.

“Then what are you?”  I asked.  “You sure as hell don’t look like a demon.”

“Tell me Lilly, what is a demon supposed to look like?”  He asked.  “Because if you’re talking about red skin and horns, you don’t look much like a demon either.”

“I’m just trying to understand!”  I yelled, slightly hurt by the fact that I really was a demon.

Ace scoffed.  “What, angel boy didn’t answer all your questions?”  I gritted my teeth, feeling my hands clench themselves into fists.

“I’m giving you a chance to tell me,” I answered.

“You want to know?”  He yelled, the iris of his eyes completely absorbed by the pupil.  “Fine.”  The black in his eyes took over the white.  It was like staring into two dark holes.  There was no gleam of light, no color, no soul.

The air around me was vacuumed away and replaced by Ace’s scent.  It intensified, setting me on fire.  My insides clenched, my legs turning into jelly beneath me.  Ace stepped towards me.  My heart was pounding inside my chest, beating like a wild beast that was desperate to escape my rib cage.  His mouth came down to my ear, thick, black hair brushing my face and sending bolts of energy and excitement down my spine.  My eyelids fluttered closed.

“This is what I can do to you,” he whispered, his voice deep and husky.  “I can make you so infatuated with me that you won’t eat, you won’t sleep, you won’t think of anything but me touching you.”

I moaned, upset by the mere inches that separated us.  I needed him to step closer, just a little closer.  I tried steeping forward, but Ace caught on and stepped back, keeping our skin from touching.

“You know what I’ll do once I get bored?”  He asked, but it was like my brain had shut off so I can’t even shake my head and ask what happens when he gets bored.  “I’ll damn you hell.”  His fingers brushed the side of my face, pushing away a strand of hair and simultaneously driving me insane.  “I’ll take your innocent little soul and drag it to hell and you won’t be able to do shit about it.”
