Chapter Fourteen
“Lilly wake up,” a deep voice growled at me. “Lilly, you have five seconds to wake up or I’ll have to force you.”
Who was this? What is he talking about?
“Five, four, three,” he warned. I groaned and pulled the flashlight closer to my chest. “Two…” he trailed off in warning. “One, that’s it.”
I felt hands on my arm and on my leg, each fingertip shot bolts of excitement through me. I squealed as I felt myself falling off the couch and onto the floor. I landed with a small thump and turned to glare up at Ace.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” I demanded. Ace sauntered away from me, giving my question no regard.
“Why is every light in the house on?” Ace asked as he pressed he light switch into the down position.
I rubbed my aching head as I picked myself up from the floor.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, much to my surprise, my voice came out sounding highly agitated. Ace turned and glanced me over with a single eyebrow raised.
“You don’t sound happy to see me,” Ace noted.
“What did you expect, Ace? You threw me on the floor. That doesn’t exactly warrant a- no, you know what- how did you even get in here?” Ace gave me a look that screamed ‘dumbass’, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“I’m a demon, Lilly. You really think a deadbolt can keep me out?” He gave a chilling laugh as he moved through the rest of my house, flicking off light after light and mumbling unflattering phrases about me.
“Well, you still haven’t explained why you’re here,” I said, following him down the carpeted hallway.
“I haven’t explained a lot of things,” he admitted, his eyes turning back to me and casting a genuine look. His statement knocked me back a bit, but I recovered soon enough.
“Well, are you going to?” I asked. Ace turned cold again and turned around.
“Just get ready.”
“Where are we going?”
“Why do you ask so many questions?” He asked, sounding beyond irritated. “Just say “yes, master” and do as you’re told.”
Oh, hell no.
I felt my teeth clenching and unclenching in anger. This bastard came into my house, woke me up, and now he was trying to boss me around? My thoughts flickered briefly to Adam and Lilith. I remembered reading articles about her insubordination and how she refused to be ruled over by any man. Was she the one making me feel this way?
“I don’t know if you’ve heard, Asmodeus, but I don’t call anyone master,” I seethed through clenched teeth.
“Yeah, that’s what got us all into this mess, you and your dumbass defiance,” he said in a condescending tone. “Just get ready.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you,” I insisted, crossing my arms over my chest and choosing to ignore his comment. Ace’s eyes narrowed into little slits.
