Chapter Twenty-Six
-Part Two-
“What did you do to Sam?” I fired my first question at him the second we sat down. He groaned and reclined back into the seat.
“Can I get some caffeine first?” Ace moaned.
“And what’s going on with you? You seem…” off? Tired? Weaker? “Different,” I decided.
“Now, now, Lilly. One question at a time.” He grinned evilly. “So who’s first, me or Angel Boy?”
“Sam,” I said bluntly, not hesitating for a moment. “What did you do to him? Why is he no longer a problem for you?”
“Because now, I’m back in the picture and things are going to go my way.”
“You’re lying.”
He groaned. “I just said it to get you riled up. I needed to test my theory of Lilith being wide awake and quickly gaining control.”
“She’s not, I’ve got everything under control.”
He smiled wickedly. “Now who’s lying?”
“Hey, what can I--“ A waiter asked as he approached our table.
“Two coffees. She wants hers regular, and I want mine black,” Ace answered, cutting the man off.
He shot me a look. I nodded and offered him a sympathetic smile. He jotted down the order and left to make the drinks.
“You didn’t have to be so rude,” I chided him.
“You know how women stare at me?” Ace asked, his voice low and menacing. “You woke Lilith up, so guess what the men are doing to you now.”
I started to argue before I looked around. He was right. The few males that were in the café had their eyes locked on me, some sneaking glances, others full on gawking.
I huffed in frustration. “So Sam is safe?”
Ace rolled his eyes. “Yes, your Angel Boy is fine.”
“You don’t happen to know about his plan to save me do you?”
“Nope,” Ace admitted, popping the ‘p’. “Not a clue.”
“Does Satan know about me unleashing my evil side?”
“If he did do you think you would still be alive?”
I shrugged. “Who am I to say you won’t hand me over after this little chat?”
Ace narrowed his eyes and tilted his head. “Do you honestly think I would do that to you?”
“You’ve been so secretive up until now, why else would you be spilling your guts?”
He groaned and leaned forward, pressing his forearms into the table top. “Listen to me, because I will only say this once.” I nodded to show I was paying attention. “I need you to trust me, I can’t tell you why, and you’ll have to accept that, but right now, it is not a good idea for you to die, and if I hand you over to Satan, he will kill you and the whole world will fall to shit along with you.”
