"WOW! THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! EVEN THE OTHER HOUSES!! Wait why are all the lights on?" I look over and over at the beautiful home, waiting for my dad to respond.
"Well the movers are some of my good friends, so I trusted them to unload the boxes in the house." Dad looked at me, then the house, then me, clearly excited. But something nagged at me deep inside. I don't even know what school I'm going to after tomorrow!
"Dad. You know what school I'm going to right, on Monday?" I look at him, waiting patiently.
"Obviously, El, it's called Falls Hill High, or something. You start on Monday." Dad tells me, clearly unfocused. He still admiring the house. You know, one reason I love this house is because I've always only lived in apartments and town homes. I also had to share a room with my little brother, and I sure hated that. Dad finally regained his grip on reality by now.
"Hey, we should wake up Mama and Jake, they fell asleep again." Dad chuckled slightly. They both sure love to sleep. "Can I just check out a little around the house?" I inquired, hoping Dad would say yes. "Okay, I'll just wake them up alone!" Dad pretended to start crying, I laughed and started walking towards the house slowly.
The house was large and mostly wooden. Through the slightly foggy windows, I could see a gas fireplace inside the home. Yes! I won't be able to burn my hands! That was a big thing for me. Back in my home in Ohio, we had a regular fireplace. When I was seven, I accidentally leaned my hands too far in it. It took a lot of crying and ice, but my hand finally healed. I exhaled the icy air and pulled my white scarf closer to me as a small gust of wind swooped by. I couldn't wait to sit by the fire, play a board game, talk a little, maybe. I wanted to go inside the house so bad! I unfixed my view away from the fireplace from outside at turned to the side.
To my shock, I saw a little girl, probably no older than 9, standing there, admiring the view of the fire from out here. She had long deep brown hair, and seemed to have blown eyes and slightly tanned but pale skin. She was shorter than me, of course, but she I got a mysterious vibe from her. A vibe that made me feel not as powerful. It was strange.
"So you're living here now." She spoke, and it startled me.
"Uh...yeah, I'm excited to live here!" I wasn't sure exactly what to say.
"That fireplace inside was my favorite." What even is going on right now? What does she mean? Was? I start to pick out my words carefully.
"Yeah, I really am excited to use it! It's quite calming, the fire." I turn back towards the window, staring at the lit fireplace again. I turn back to look at her again.
She was gone.
