"That was the girl! That told me to give the rock to you!" Jake whispered to me, carefully, so she wouldn't hear us. This whole deal is giving me major eerie vibes...
"You sure, J?" Obviously he was sure, she couldn't be mistaken for another girl. She was the only other kid and girl here. Her lightly, tussled, dark brown hair shook in the light breezes that whispered through the trees. Jake and I just stood there, waiting for her to do something. Nothing. She simply stayed and sat there. After a few minutes, she ran her hand across the frost on the small patches of icy grass. It wetted her hands slightly and she flicked the droplets away at the bark of a nearby tree. She started to lean back slowly and carefully. Jake and I tried to tiptoe a few footsteps backward, so she would have room without seeing us above her.
"Yeah, a hundred percent." Jake whispered back, seeming still annoyed that the girl left him. She let out a small sigh.
"I love the fore-", the girl stated talking. However, at this point Jake sneezed. Really loud. The girl jumped up,
simultaneously turning around, as if we were dangerous."Uh oh," I mumbled under my breath. We looked as guilty as a cat who just ate his owner's pet fish.
"Were you...following me?" The girl seemed slightly hurt.
"No! We...we just got here!" Jake lied through his teeth. He obviously wanted her to stay. The girl shed a couple tears, as she ran the opposite side of the woods. I turned back to Jake.
"Jake! It's been twenty minutes! We're gonna be in so much trouble." Jake was still looked at where the girl had run off. She ran off to the part of the forest with dry leave-less trees. Where the grass starts to disappear, and where the woods go on forever. Where could she possibly go to now?
Jake started running.
Fast."Jake! Wait where are you going!" I yelled out, making a few surrounding black-purple crows caw and fly, up and away. He stopped about fifteen feet away from me.
"I wanna find her again!" Jake argued.
"We're gonna be late for dinner, Jake!" I signed in defeat.
"I don't care!" He continued running, I followed, partially angered. He is not going to get away from me this time! I got nearer and nearer to him as he abruptly stopped. I jogged over next to him. The little girl was standing there, crying. Oh gosh, I feel so bad for her. I strolled over beside her, Jake standing eight feet behind me, watching with sympathy. I looked down at her, wondering what was wrong.
"Are...are you okay?" She looked up with tears eyes and scowled.
"No! Do I look like I'm okay?" She looked back at the floor, "Please. Just leave me alone." She slightly pushed me away from her.
"Okay, I'll leave you alone, just tell me something..." I hoped she would agree.
"What! What do you so badly wanna know?" She angrily wiped her last droplets of tears from her soaking face and stuffed her hands back into the pockets of her lavender coat roughly.
"What's...what's your name?" She shifted slightly, as if something as simple as telling me her name, was a life or death decision. She turned her back towards me and sighed.
"Evelyn."
She stayed turned back from me and started walking away.
