More people entered grandmas house. It felt like there was 1,000 people, even though there was 15, or more. I sat in a corner away from everyone. The corner was behind a shelf, so no one could see me.

I started to smell food. I wasn't sure what it was, but it smelt good. I was about to peek my head up, but I heard kids run close to me.

I heard champagne glasses click. People laughing. I heard everything. Everyone was having fun, while I was in a corner with my book. But I liked my corner.

It was dark, and hidden.

"Uncle Mark, wheres Tim?" I peeked through the side of the shelf to see Barry.

"I don't know. He's probably hiding from everyone."

"Oh." I saw Barry look down, and walk away. He had.. he had a book in his hands.

I grabbed Lucy's ball that was across from me, and gently tossed it over by Barry. He looked down, and traced the ball back to me.

"Uncle Mark was right. You are hiding." Barry whispered as he sat down. My corner was big enough for 2. More than 2 actually.

"Yeah.. I don't.. I don't like meeting new people." I whispered back to him. "It makes me scared."

"Like you don't fit in? Like everyone will judge you?"

I nodded.

"I feel the same way." Barry opened his book. "Even with family." I then opened my book. "What's your book about?" Barry asked me.

"Science. It's interesting." I said. "What's yours about?" I asked him.

"Mythology." It was silent till Barry, and I both grabbed each other's books out of each other's hands. "ELECTRICITY?"

"PHOENIX?"

When dinner for the family was done, Barry, and I stayed in our corner till daddy, and uncle Thomas told us to come eat. The grownups sat at the big table, and the kids sat on the stools.

I sat across from Barry. Then next to me was Melanie, and next to Barry was Jacob, and next to Jacob was Ellie. Then next to Melanie was Anna. Then on my other side was Layla.

"You also read books?" Jacob looked at me funny.

"Yep. You should try reading. It helps your brain." I said. "It's also fun." I ate some of my biscuit as I flipped the book bag.

"We already have a nerd, ahem, Barry, and now another one?"

I think the grownups heard what Jacob said.

"Jacob, they like reading. That doesn't make them nerds." Daddy said angrily.

I saw Jacob roll his eyes as he looked away from the grownups. Barry, and I smiled as we looked down.

"Do any of you guys like reading?" I asked all of the girls.

I saw Ellie raise her hand. "Small books. Not big ones." Ellie whispered. She was the shy one.

"The rest of them don't." Barry told me. "Not even Melanie. And she's supposed to be the oldest." I handed Barry his book back, and he handed mine back.

"We all like different things, Barry."

"How old are you again?" I kept pacing my head towards Barry, then Melanie.

"13." Melanie said. I could tell that she was getting angry. Just by her facial expressions.

"Me, and Tim are probably smarter than all of you combined." Jacob laughed. But no one else did.

I saw Melanie grab her drink, and splash all of it in Barry. Jacob hopped out of his seat. Anna, Melanie, and Layla all did a laugh.

When all of the grownups got up to settle what happened, I pushed Melanie off her stool. Then I grabbed her plate, and dumped it on her. I heard Jacob laugh again.

I was about to say something till grandma yelled, "STOP!" Bubbles came to eat the food off Melanie, but daddy picked him up. Daddy made a face at me.

I knew I was in trouble.

So much for my first Thanksgiving.
