Joey's POV
"So, ready for your first day here in Providence?" Dad asked, as I tied my shoe laces. "I guess," I mumble. "Miss Andrew and Willow, don't you?" He smirked. "Dad, I don't wanna think about anyone but Andrew. I really, really miss him," I whined. He patted my back. "It's okay Joe, you can talk to them after school," He said. I shrugged.
Dad dropped me off, and I soon got lost in the mass of students walking without a care into the aging building. I spotted a sign on the wall saying Administration Office. I slithered inbetween people and into the small room.
"May I help you, sir?" A woman, sitting at the desk, asked. "Uh, hi. I-I'm new and I need my schedule. Her overly make-uped face showed no emotion as she typed on the computer. "Name?" "J-Joey. Joey Drysdale," I informed her. Again, she showed no emotion as she printed a paper. Her long, thin fingers snatched it from the printer and handed it to me. "Thanks," I mumbled. She then went back to typing like Dad does. People these days.
"Um, where's room 233?" I asked. The boy I asked turned and looked around. "A-Are you talking to me?" He asked. I was unsure to what to do. "Yeah," I drag. "Um, 233. I-It's, uh, u-upstairs. I-I'll show you. I'm a-across the hall," He stuttered, his eyes staring into mine.
We walked up a staircase and I followed down a hall. "R-Right there," He pointed. I thanked him, and watched as the boy silently snuck into the empty classroom. I knew it was still going to be a while until the bell rang, so I retraced my steps so I could remember how to get back. Softly, I knocked on the door. It almost immediately opened. "I've got tutoring. Who are you and what do you want?" The teacher asked. I could see some students messing around and making faces in the background.
"I-I.. I just wanted to know if you could help me find my classes," I said. "But I can see you're not capable of doing that," I sigh. "Don't worry. I've got an 'A+' student hanging about here, I'll have him take you instead," He offered. "Thanks," I smiled. "William. C'mere," He called. "Will, this is..." the teacher paused. "Oh, um, J-Joey Drysdale," I introduced. Will eyed me up and down, which made me uncomfortable.
"What do you want me to do with him?" Will asked. "Take him on a tour. Show him his classes. Joey, do you have me for any classes?" He said. "Um, f-first, actually. Homeroom," I say. The teacher nodded. "Right then, I'm Mr. Axel. Show him his classes please, Will. If you do this successfully, you'll get extra credit," Mr. Axel bribed. "I-I thought he was an 'A+' student," I joked quietly. "Uh, 'B's are pretty close," He chuckled.
Will walked with me downstairs to my next class. There was just something about him that reminded me of Andrew. Something that made me want to cling to him and kiss him and just be around him. I just couldn't put my finger on it. "So, who you got second?" He asked. "Um, room 139," I stammered. "Miss Heiland? I have her second too. Hmm, you'll like her, she real cool," He said. I nodded, even though I'd never actually met her.
"Hey Miss H," He called as we passed by. "Good morning William," She smiled. We kept walking until the bell rang, then he told me to go back to Mr. Axel's room, because he had to get to his class. I opened the door, surprised to see no one else in the classroom. "Joey, good you're back. Now you're gonna have to stand so I can see where my empty seats are. Go ahead and sit on that chair next to my desk until everyone arrives," He said. I nodded and did as he said.
As kids poured into the class, I pulled out my phone slowly and looked at my wallpaper. Call me crazy or call me obsessive, but I don't care what you think. My wallpaper was of me and Andrew on our first date. Sorta. I was on his shoulders and we had Willow take the picture. It was the best moment of my life. Now here I am in a different state, lost beyond finding. I smiled at his face. "Joey," Mr. Axel called. I quickly shoved my phone back in my pocket. "You'll be sitting here, next to Chase," He said. The boy waved at me.
The only reason I didn't want to look around and be around boys, because I wasn't going to let distance ruin me and Andrew. Although, I can't say the same for him.
