With Francois being his neglectful guardian, Matt never had a birthday party. He was always extremely jealous of Allen because he had Oliver as his guardian, yet he believed Allen didn't appreciate Oliver as much as he should. Every year until they were adults, Allen and Oliver sent him an invitation for Allen's birthday but Matt never came, because even if he wanted to, Francois would probably never take him. This is one of the reasons why Matt and Allen had a rocky relationship in the future.
